Oilers wins Game 4 of Stanley Cup Final in Overtime, Series Tied at 2-2

SUNRISE, Fla. —  In a game that saw both teams score three unanswered goals in a period, a tying goal with under 20 seconds to play in regulation and a third overtime bout of the series, Leon Draisaitl scored the OT winner, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-4 victory over the Florida Panthers.

The series shifts back to Edmonton tied at 2-2, with the Oilers returning home after a potential season saving performance in Sunrise.

With Florida on a 5-on-3 power play, Matthew Tkachuk bypassed an attempt to establish possession in the zone, instead opting to fire a shot just four seconds into the extended man-advantage, putting the Panthers up 1-0 with his first goal of the series 11:40 into the opening period.

Less than eight minutes after he opened the scoring, Tkachuk doubled the Panthers lead with his second power-play goal of the period, giving Florida a 2-0 cushion 3:04 into the first.

Anton Lundell, in tandem with Carter Verhaeghe, made it 3-0 in favor of Florida. Verhaeghe just before the first intermission came around. At the tail end of a shift, Verhaeghe, who was the first forward in the zone on the forecheck, took Troy Stecher off the puck before feeding a wide open Lundell in front of goal, who buried his sixth of the postseason with 41.7 seconds to go in the period.

When the teams came out for the second period, Edmonton had a new goaltender. For the second straight game, Stuart Skinner was pulled for Calvin Picard after giving up three goals on 17 shots.

Edmonton stopped the bleeding 3:33 into the second after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ripped a shot on the power play past Sergei Bobrovsky, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The Oilers scored a second unanswered goal with 7:13 left in the middle frame thanks to Darnell Nurse, who beat Bobrovsky up high to make it a one-goal game.

Edmonton completed the three-goal, single period comeback after Vasily Podkolzin slipped a backhand shot off a rebound past Bobrovsky to tie the game at 3-3 with 4:55 to go in the period.

The Oilers took their first lead of the night with just 6:24 remaining in the third after Jake Walkman buried a one-timer to put his team up 4-3.

It looked as if Edmonton was going to get out of the building with a regulation comeback win.

But the “Cardiac Cats” weren’t done yet.

As the clock ticked down, and the goaltender was pulled, Sam Reinhart tied the game with just 19.5 seconds remaining in the third.

Overtime would be needed for the third time in the series (Games 1 & 2).

Game 5 will be in Edmonton on Saturday night at 8 ET from Rogers Place.
