Marlins’ Robby Snelling To Undergo Tommy John Surgery

MIAMI — Before Thursday’s loss against the Atlanta Braves, the Miami Marlins announced one of their top pitching prospects is out for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The Marlins transferred left-handed pitching prospect Robby Snelling to the 60-day injured list. He was originally placed on the injured list before his second start in the big leagues with a sprained UCL in his left elbow. He is now due to undergo Tommy John surgery later this week.

“Disappointing for him, us,” manager Clayton McCullough said during his pregame press conference. “That’s an unfortunate part of our industry. Guys go down. So Robby will have the surgery. We’ll have more what the timeline and return to play will look like after that. We just keep going, and Robby will come back from this a stronger person.”

Snelling was one of the dominant arms in Triple-A before his Major League call-up, posting a 1.86 ERA with 44 strikeouts in six starts. He made his MLB debut after the Marlins designated veteran Chris Paddack for assignment.

Snelling went five innings with three runs allowed on five hits in his Major League debut on May 8, a 3-2 loss against the Washington Nationals.

The Marlins are looking for a new starting pitcher for Sunday’s game against the New York Mets. Braxton Garrett was sent back down to Triple-A Jacksonville after two rough outings and No. 1 prospect Thomas White was recently placed on the minor league injured list.

The Marlins hosts the Mets for a three-game series, starting Friday. The Marlins will send Eury Perez and Max Meyer to the mound for the first two games.
