Takeaways: Panthers lose in Overtime to Ducks

SUNRISE — The Florida Panthers dropped their second straight game on Monday, losing 5-4 in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks.

The Ducks overcame two, two-goal deficits as they handed the Panthers their second consecutive loss.

Alex Killorn scored twice, including the OT winner as the Ducks picked up their 15th win of the season.

Florida dropped to 27-13-3 with the loss.

Here’s three game takeaways.

Sam Bennett lights the lamp twice

Panthers forward Sam Bennett scored twice on Monday — leading all Panthers in goals

Bennett opened the game’s scoring on the power play with his ninth goal of the season 8:29 into the first.

He would score his tenth of the season 12:49 into the second — giving the Panthers a 4-2 lead.

“I think our line is finding our chemistry that we ended the year with,” Bennett said. “We’re feeling good together. We’re making plays again and I’m enjoying playing with those guys.”

The Bennett, Verhaeghe, Tkachuk line combined for five points.

“Well they’re going,” coach Paul Maurice spoke of the line, “We’ve got that line going, we’re gonna get the Lundell line going.”

Special Teams Puck

Monday’s matinee wasn’t forgiving for those who don’t play special teams minutes.

There were a total of nine power plays and 15 penalties between the sides. The Ducks went to the man-advantage five times to the Panthers’ four.

Both teams scored once while shorthanded. The Panthers won the power play battle, capitalizing twice with the extra man. Anaheim went 0/5 on the powerplay.

While the Panthers PK continued their stronghold and the power play scored multiple goals, it still wasn’t enough on Monday for the Panthers.

No lead Too Big, No Lead Too Safe

The earlier than usual start time (1 p.m. puck drop) led to an even more unusual game.

Florida opened the game with consecutive goals from the Sams — Bennett and Reinhart.

Considering how solid the Panthers have been defensively this season, the early 2-0 lead looked to be the beginning of a runaway.

That was until Alex Killorn got the Ducks on the board with 4 seconds remaining in the first — on just their fourth shot of the game.

Anaheim would carry the momentum of Killorn’s late goal into the second.

Adam Henrique scored his 11th goal of the season 5:24 into the period — tying the game at 2-2.

“I think we took it too lightly,” Bennett said. “We got up by a couple goals and started playing a little too comfortable.”

Florida didn’t let the erasure of their two goal lead affect them too much however.

Carter Verheaghe reclaimed the Panthers lead with his 23rd goal of the year 9:36 into the period. Bennett would once again double Florida’s lead three minutes later with his second of the game.

The Panthers lost their first two-goal advantage, but after getting it back, surely it wouldn’t happen again.

It happened again.

Jakob Silfverberg cut the deficit to one before the second intermission, then Troy Terry tied the game 3:45 into the third.

“I think we weren’t playing hard enough,” Verheaghe said. “I think we were a little sloppy in some areas. We got a little run and gun.”

Florida would pick up a point in overtime, but the Ducks took the win off of Alex Killorn’s game winner.

Panthers Notes

Captain Aleksander Barkov didn’t play in the final five-plus minutes on Monday. Coach Paul Maurice said it was a precautionary move and that they expect him to play Wednesday against Detroit.

5 Guidelines For Properly Storing THC Oil To Maximize Its Shelf Life

When it comes to maintaining the potency and flavor of your THC oil, proper storage is crucial. Tetrahydrocannabinol oil, just like many other cannabis-infused products, is prone to degradation over time if not stored correctly. It can reduce effectiveness and alter taste, leading to a less enjoyable experience overall.

In this article, we will guide you through five essential steps that will ensure your CBDfx THC oil stays fresh, potent, and at its peak quality for as long as possible. By following these steps, you’ll be able to maximize its shelf life and fully immerse yourself in the satisfying and delightful experience that Tetrahydrocannabinol oil has to offer.

So, let’s dive in and discover the secrets to preserving the full potential of your THC oil!

What Is the Average Shelf Life of THC Oil?

THC oil is a favorite choice of many cannabis enthusiasts due to its potency and easy-to-use nature. However, the shelf life of Tetrahydrocannabinol oil may vary depending on several aspects, such as the quality of the oil, the extraction method used, and the storage conditions. On average, Tetrahydrocannabinol oil can last for up to a year when stored correctly. However, light, air, and heat exposure can significantly reduce its shelf life.

To ensure the longevity of Tetrahydrocannabinol oil, it is essential to store it in a cool, dark place, away from light and heat sources. Proper storage also prevents the oil from oxidizing, which can cause a change in flavor, color, and potency. Overall, while the shelf life of THC oil can vary, proper storage is crucial to maintain its quality over time.

5 Guidelines for Properly Storing THC Oil to Maximize Its Shelf Life

Store THC oil in a cool and dark place to prevent exposure to light and heat.

When it comes to storing THC oil, there are certain guidelines you should follow to maximize its shelf life and maintain its potency. One of the easiest ways to ensure that your oil stays fresh for as long as possible is to store it in a cool and dark place. Light and heat can cause Tetrahydrocannabinol oil to break down and lose potency over time, so it’s important to keep it away from direct sunlight and sources of heat, such as stoves and ovens.

A cool, dark cabinet or drawer is the ideal spot to store your THC oil, as it will be protected from both light and heat.

Keep THC oil away from moisture, which can cause mold growth and spoilage.

One important factor to consider when storing THC oil is the presence of moisture. When it is exposed to moisture, it becomes susceptible to contamination from mold or bacteria, leading to spoilage and degradation of the oil’s quality. To avoid these issues, it is crucial to store it in an airtight container that is tightly sealed, avoiding any moisture from entering.

Additionally, it is recommended to use a container specifically designed for oil storage, preferably made from materials like glass or stainless steel that do not react with the oil, ensuring the integrity and longevity of the stored oil. By taking these precautions, you can safeguard the potency and freshness of your THC oil for an extended period.

Always store the cannabis oil in airtight containers to reduce the risk of oxidation and degradation.

To reduce the risk of oxidation and degradation, it is crucial to store THC oil in airtight containers. Oxygen can gradually break down the oil, resulting in a loss of potency and flavor over time. Therefore, it is essential to protect the oil from exposure to oxygen by storing it in tightly sealed containers.

Glass bottles or jars with airtight lids are highly recommended for preserving the quality of Tetrahydrocannabinol oils and ensuring their long-term freshness. By taking these precautions, you can maintain the potency and flavor of your THC oil for a longer period, enhancing your overall experience.

Avoid frequent exposure to air, as it can lead to oxidation and reduction in potency.

To maintain the potency and effectiveness of THC oil, it is crucial to minimize its exposure to air. When Tetrahydrocannabinol oil comes into contact with air, it undergoes oxidation, resulting in a gradual loss of potency over time. This oxidation process can significantly impact the oil’s effectiveness. To mitigate the risk of oxidation, it is recommended to store your cannabis oil in a tightly sealed, airtight container.

Additionally, limiting the frequency of opening the container is advisable to further minimize air exposure and ensure the longevity of the oil’s potency. By following these precautions, you can preserve the quality of your THC oil and maximize its efficacy.

Store THC oil away from children and pets to prevent accidental ingestion.

THC oil may pose a significant risk if ingested in large quantities. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to ensure that it is stored in a place that is out of reach for little ones and inaccessible to curious pets. By adhering to these guidelines, not only can you ensure the freshness and effectiveness of your THC oil, but you can also guarantee the safety of your loved ones and furry companions. So, take the extra step to find a secure storage spot, ensuring peace of mind for you and those around you.

Final Thoughts

Proper storage of THC oil is essential to maximize its shelf life and ensure that the product remains potent and effective. By following these five guidelines, you can extend the lifespan of your Tetrahydrocannabinol oil and safeguard your investment. Always store your oil in a cool, dark, and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Keep the cannabis oil properly sealed in an airtight container, away from oxygen, moisture, and contaminants. Labeling your oil with a date of purchase is recommended to keep track of its age and avoid consuming an expired product. By adhering to these basic storage tips, you can enjoy your THC oil for longer, ensure its potency, and avoid waste or damage to your product.

Panthers win streak ends with 4-1 loss to Devils

SUNRISE — The Florida Panthers nine-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday as they fell 4-1 to the New Jersey Devils.

From the drop of the puck, the heavily depleted Devils were on their A-game in Sunrise.

Alexander Holtz and Jesper Bratt scored in the first period to give the Devils an important 2-0 lead.

This was the first time the Panthers conceded multiple goals in the first period since their Dec. 14 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

The beginning of the second wasn’t much better for Florida.

3:51 into the period, Erik Haula scored to give the Devils a three goal lead on just their 13th shot of the game.

Florida didn’t have much going for them in the game, but one thing that could get some juice going was a power play — and that’s what they got.

The Panthers got their first man-advantage with 2:28 to go in the second.

Sam Reinhart would score his 31st goal of the season and league leading 16th on the power play  with 33 seconds remaining in the period. Matthew Tkachuk extended his point streak to eight games with the primary assist on Reinhart’s goal.

New Jersey led 3-1 entering the third.

Florida pushed for the comeback in the final frame, but a strong performance from Devils’ goaltender Nico Daws kept the explosive Panthers offense out of the net.

Daws finished the game with 36 saves for his third win off the season.

John Marino sealed away an empty netter for the 4-1 win.

“That was a mature game by our team. That was hard, that was a heavy game,” head coach Paul Maurice said. “We weren’t at full speed, and I don’t hold that against them at all.”

The Panthers moved to 27-13-2 with the loss.

Panthers Notes

Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was selected to his third NHL All-Star game on Saturday. After being selected through the fan vote, Bobrovsky will join Sam Reinhart as Florida’s All-Star representatives in Toronto.

The Panthers next game will be a 1 p.m. puck drop on Monday, Jan. 15 against the Anaheim Ducks.

With the Ducks in town, former Panthers’ defenseman Radko Gudas will be back in Sunrise for the first time in last season’s Stanley Cup Final. Gudas, 33, signed with the Ducks over the summer after spending the past three seasons with the Panthers (2020-2023).

Panthers defeat Kings in OT Thriller, Extend Win Streak to Nine

SUNRISE — The Florida Panthers were back at Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday night to deliver another Cardiac Cats worthy performance in their 3-2 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings.

Matthew Tkachuk tied the game late to force overtime and Sam Reinhart won it with 0.7 seconds remaining.

The Panthers extended their season best win streak to nine straight with the victory.

Here’s some takeaways from the game.

Sam Bennett gets eighth goal of the season

Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk have been having a ball as of late in the points department.

Entering Thursday’s matchup against the Kings,  Tkachuk had 13 points in his last five games, while Verhaeghe had 10 points.

The third member of that Florida second line, Sam Bennett, had less of an offensive impact over that span with four points.

With the Panthers trailing 1-0 against the Kings, Bennett would tie the game with his eighth goal of the season 10:58 into the second.

As Florida’s power play winded down, Bennett led the rush through the neural zone, drove the net and deflated in Eetu Luostarinen’s pass to get the Panthers on the board.

Bennett has 15 points in 29 games this season.

Tkachuk saves the day

We’ve already highlighted the great stretch Matthew Tkachuk has had over the last few contests.

He did it again on Thursday.

Down one, goalie pulled, Florida needed a goal. Tkachuk delivered.

With 2:18 left in the third, Carter Verheaghe fired a shot near the right circle and Tkachuk got a stick on it to deflect the puck up and over Cam Talbot –tying the game at 2-2.

“[We] just try to throw everything at the net and get people to the net,” Tkachuk said when recalling the goal. “Luckily it hit off my stick.”

Tkachuk extended his point streak to seven and goal streak to five on Thursday. Verhaeghe also extended his point streak to seven.

Sam Reinhart hits 30 goals, scores last-second OT winner

Florida clawed back to tie the game with 2:18 left in the third period to force over time.

In the extra frame, the Panthers got a glorious opportunity —  they’d go to the power play with 1:23 remaining after Adrian Kempe cross-checked Brandon Montour.

On the 4-on-3 power play, Florida wasn’t generating a whole lot of offense, getting just one shot on goal on the power play until the final seconds.

With the clock running down, LA cleared the zone one final time. With just a few seconds remaining, it seemed as if this game was going to a shootout.

The Florida crowd urged the Panthers to make one final push — and they did.

After entering the zone with less than ten seconds to go , Aleksander Barkov hit Sam Reinhart in front of the Kings’ net.

Reinhart wired a backhand shot top shelf over Cam Talbot, beating the clock with just 0.7 seconds remaining to win the game, and get his 30th goal of the season.

“It’s going well for us. We’re really in the moment, taking it day by day,” Reinhart said. “This was a really tough test… I liked our battle, I liked our compete.”

After tonight’s contest, Reinhart has scored 30 goals, 53 points in 41 games. He’s on pace for 60 and 106.

Panthers notes

Florida is back at home on Saturday, Jan. 13 against the New Jersey Devils

Sam Reinhart is second in the NHL with 30 goals

Sergei Bobrovsky won his 21st game of the season.

Takeaways from Skyforce’s Strong Start to the Season

The Skyforce have started the regular season 7-0 for the first time in the G-League era. That is very impressive considering the amount of roster movement that takes place in this league. I asked Head Coach Kasib Powell about how he can keep everyone on the same page, “communication is key, and trying to get in front of everything as much as we can, but being able to speak with our guys on a daily basis helps a lot.” The Skyforce has a chance to do something special if they continue to stay on the same page. They are a very deep team and have very few holes because of it. Let’s take a look at what is contributing to such a great start.

The Skyforce can put up a lot of points. The Skyforce rank 5th in points per game, 6th in FG%, 5th in True Shooting, and 10th in offensive rating. Simply put the Skyforce are a top 5 offense in many categories. What is interesting is how they get their points. They are middle of the road in FGA, 3PA, 3P%, FTA, and FT%. So how do all of these numbers lead to a top 5 offense? They make their 2 point shots at a good clip. Whether it is Alondes Willaims breaking down his defender and finishing smoothly inside the arc or it is Orlando Robinson when on assignment from the Heat, dominating the post and getting easy baskets, it is evident they have players that know how to create quality looks. They do a good job of not settling for shots and getting to their spots. As I mentioned earlier this team also has great depth, they have numerous guys that can go off any given night. They have 4 players averaging over 20 points, and 7 players averaging over 10 points.

When there are so many formidable scorers on the same team it is impossible to guard. Jamaree Bouyea is a dynamic playmaker for them and puts a lot of strain on the defense. His quickness is unguardable and it allows him to break down a defense to create quality shots. Justin Chmpagnie can get as hot as anyone and put up points FAST in a multitude of ways. Bryson Warren has a smooth stroke from deep and is always ready to let it fly. They also have arguably the two best scorers in the G-League. I mean Alondes Williams just dropped 55 (franchise record) and in the same game, Cole Swider put in a cool 37. Pick your poison, you’ll die either way.

As good as the offense has been their defense has been better. I honestly did not think I would be commenting on how good their defense is considering how the games leading up to the regular season played out, but here we are. The Skyforce are the #6 defense, according to defensive rating. They also are one of the best defensive rebounding teams in the league, coming in at #3 on defensive rebounding percentage.  So they do a good job of limiting possessions to 1 shot. In the games leading up to the regular season, the Skyforce had a bad habit of gambling for too many steals and at times getting burnt for easy points. I noticed this and Asked Manny Camper if going for steals was something that Coach Powell stressed. Camper stated, “He wants us to be solid and straight up for the most part but if we do feel like we have an opportunity to be disruptive or feel like we have a break on the ball he wants us to be aggressive.” Since the regular season has started the players have had better discipline on when to gamble. They have improved their defense tremendously with this discipline. Coach Powell should be very proud of how they have locked in.

Player highlights

Alondes Williams

The only way to start is by mentioning the new owner of the scoring record. I mean come on, Williams was in the ZONE and nothing was stopping him on his way to 55 points against the Stars on January 7th. Williams was unguardable finishing 21-30 from the field and 4-6 from three. He excels at taking his defender one one-on-one and getting a good look inside the arc. He typically is not a three-point shooter, but when his three is falling there is nothing the defense can do. I love watching Williams, his game is so smooth and looks natural. Not many people ever score 55 points in a game, much less a professional basketball game. To Alondes Williams it was just another day in the office telling me after the game  “I just try to take everything day by day and let it flow. I just played the game and if they fall in, cool, if not I am going to try to find a way to help the team win.” Maybe that explains why he didn’t even smile for his celebratory photo, to Alondes it was just another day of basketball.

Manny Camper

Mr. Grit and Grind, Manny Camper is one of my personal favorites. It isn’t because of sexy numbers or eye-popping plays it is because of all the little things he does. Camper is just a winner, that is all he cares about and it is evident when you watch him. He will do anything required to win. His defense is spectacular and, in my opinion, a large reason why the defense has turned around for the Skyforce. Camper deserves his flowers, and I’m going to make sure he gets them.

Cole Swider

Cole Swider is one of the best shooters on the planet and it is only a matter of time before people realize it. Swider is shooting a ridiculous 55.3% from three in the regular season on 9.5 attempts. There is not a three-point shot that he can’t hit. He reminds me so much of Duncan Robinson. When asked about the comparison to Robinson, Swider stated “I love the comparison to Duncan, he’s been in the same situation as me and has been very successful in the NBA. He has a great work ethic and has been a great role model for me to model my game after.”

Panthers Put Eight Past Avalanche, Extend Winning-Streak to Seven

Scoring wasn’t an issue Saturday afternoon in Denver. The Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche exchanged 12 goals in a wild back in forth game.

The Panthers would come out on top, defeating the Avalanche 8-4 as they extend their season best winning-streak to seven — improving to 25-12-2 on the year.

Carter Verhaeghe opened the scoring just 70 seconds into the game with his 21st goal of the season.

Sam Reinhart would follow up Verhaeghe with two goals himself for his 26th and 27th of the season.

Florida took a 3-0 lead less than eight minutes into Saturday’s contest. The score would hold through the period.

After a disappointing opening frame for the Avalanche, they came bursting out of the gates in the second.

Cale Makar scored his ninth of the season just 21 seconds into the period for Colorado’s first goal of the game.

31 seconds after Makar cut the Panthers lead to two, Josh Manson followed suit with his fifth goal, cutting Florida’s lead to 3-2.

The Avalanche got two back less than a minute into the second and they weren’t done there.

At the 4:35 mark of the second, Valeri Nichushkin tied the game with his 20th goal of the year. Colorado needed less than five minutes to overcome the three goal hole.

With all the momentum now in Colorado’s corner, Florida was in trouble within the blink of an eye.

Panthers’ defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson was able to stop the bleeding, getting back the lead 8:50 into the second.

After Florida went up 4-3, the Avalanche would make a change in goal. Ivan Prosvetov was replaced by Alexandar Georgiev after the goaltender allowed four goals on just 13 shots.

The Panthers went into the second intermission up one after a four goal period.

No matter how many times they trailed, the Avalanche would not go away.

Colorado started the third much like they did the second. Jonathan Drouin tied the game 3:31 into the period with his ninth of the season.

Florida would catch a break after conceding the lead for a second time. Ross Colton received a double-minor penalty for high sticking Evan Rodrigues, then 25 seconds later Logan O’Connor went to the box for a delay of game.

With a 5-on-3 man-advantage, the NHL’s best power play scorer feasted again.

Sam Reinhart completed his hat trick 5:59 into the third — giving Florida a 5-4 lead with his 28th of the season.

With the three goals, Reinhart jumped up to second place in NHL goal scoring — trailing just Auston Matthews (30).

Kevin Stenlund doubled the Panthers lead in the third to make it 6-4 with 11 minutes remaining.

Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe put the icing on top with a pair of empty netters in the 8-4 win.

Panthers Notes

Tkachuk and Barkov both had four points

Sam Bennett did not return to the game in the third period

Panthers are 3-0-0 on road trip. Will wrap up the four-game trip in St. Louis on Tuesday. Florida’s last loss was to the Blues on Dec. 21 in Sunrise.

Panthers Extend Winning Streak to Six, Defeat Knights in Vegas

The Florida Panthers scored three times on the power play and went perfect on the penalty kill in their 4-1 win against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Panthers are riding a season best six-game win streak. They improved to 24-12-2 on the season with the win and are just two points behind the Bruins for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Sergei Bobrovsky had 26 saves in his 19th win of the season. The Panthers’ goalie has won his last five starts.

Thursday’s win marked the first time the Panthers defeated the Knights in Vegas.

“I think we played a really good team effort,” Bobrovsky said. “Penalty kill was on, the power play was great as well. We beat a good team. It’s a really tough building to get the win, so we’re really happy.”

Florida’s second line of Sam Bennett, Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk carried the bulk of the offense on Thursday. All three players scored against the Knights.

Tkachuk had two points, while scoring in consecutive games for the first time this season. Tkachuk extended his point-streak to four games — picking up six points over that span.

Verhaeghe got his 20th goal of the season and finished the night with two points. Verhaeghe has hit the 20 goal mark in each of his last three seasons with the Panthers.

Florida’s leading scorer Sam Reinhart grabbed his 25th of the season 5:23 in the third to make the game 4-1. Reinhart, who was named an All-Star for the first time in his career on Thursday, has the third most goals in the NHL.

The Panthers shut it down defensively and scored four unanswered goals after Pavel Dorofeyev opened the scoring 3:59 into the game for the Knights.

Florida’s special teams played a huge part in the win on Thursday. The Panthers scored three times on the power play and killed off all six of their penalties — two of which were 5-on-3 advantages for the Knights.

“[The] Powerplay did a really good job tonight, but it’s hard to not talk about how great the PK and Bob were,” Tkachuk said. “That 5-on-3, two of them, that was the difference in the game. Our PK has been unreal honestly the whole year.”

Florida played most of the game missing two of their top-line forwards. Panthers’ captain Aleksander Barkov left the game in the first after taking an accidental elbow to the face behind the play. Evan Rodrigues would also leave the game after blocking a shot in the first. Neither player finished the game.

Panthers coach Paul Maurice couldn’t provide an update on either player after the game. He said they’ll have an update on Friday.

Florida won the first two of their four-game Western Conference road trip by a combined score of 8-2. They’ll finish the trip with games against the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues.

Panthers Notes

F,Nick Cousins, did not play against Vegas (Concussion Protocol)

F, Jonah Gadjovich, played in first game since Dec. 8

Panthers are second place in Atlantic, third in East

Panthers’ Sam Reinhart Named To First NHL All-Star Game

Florida Panthers forward Sam Reinhart is an All-Star.

The 28-year-old was named an NHL All-Star  for the first time in his career on Thursday.

The All-Star nod was much deserved for Reinhart — who in year nine — is having the best season of his career.

Reinhart has been the most consistent Panther this season, leading the team in scoring with 45 points in 37 games. He is also third in the NHL with 24 goals.

This section has been a long time coming for the Panthers’ forward. Prior to Thursday, Reinhart had never been named an All-Star despite hitting 20-plus goals in eight of his nine seasons — including this year.

Since joining the Panthers in the summer of 2021, Reinhart has put up the best offensive numbers of his career, scoring at least 30 goals in each of the last two seasons. He is currently on pace to shatter his career-high of 33 goals (set in 2021-2022).

All 32 teams had one player selected by the NHL to represent them at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto. The remaining 12 spots (eight skaters, four goalies) will be selected through fan vote.

There’s a few Panthers whose play this season have warranted an All-Star nomination.

Reinhart’s linemate Aleksander Barkov is over a point-per-game and probably the best two-way forward in hockey right now. Carter Verhaeghe continues to light the lamp as his 19 goals are tied for tenth most in the NHL. Sergei Bobrovsky could also get a shout as one of the East goalie options.

However, with the few remaining spots, it’s entirely plausible that Reinhart will be the only Panther in Toronto.

When Florida hosted the All-Star game last year, the Panthers had two representatives, Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov. The duo led the Atlantic Division to the title — while Tkachuk was named MVP of the game.

Reinhart will be representing the Panthers and the Atlantic Division, Feb. 1-3 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario.

Panthers Win Four Straight, Defeat Canadiens 4-1

SUNRISE — The Florida Panthers ended 2023 with another win, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 at Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday night.

Eetu Luostarinen had two goals, including the game winner and Anthony Stolarz had 18 saves in his fifth win of the season. The Panthers improved to 22-12-2.

Here’s three takeaways.

Two Power play goals for Luostarinen

After a scoreless first period, Eetu Luosatrinen gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead on the power play 4:05 into the second.

While falling backwards, Luostarinen batted a puck from midair past Canadiens’ goaltender  Jake Allen for his sixth goal of the season.

Cole Caufield would answer back for Montreal with his own power play goal at the 7:05 mark of the period —  tying the game at 1 -1.

The score would remain the same up to the 7:34 mark of the third period. On Florida’s third power play of the night, Luostarinen would score his second goal of the night, also coming on the powerplay. Florida went up 2-1.

When on the power play, Luostarinen is usually out with the second unit, so the chance to get a pair of special team’s goals doesn’t come too often. Saturday was also the first multi-goal game of Luostarinen’s career.

“Obviously it’s nice to be on that power play and taking advantage of it,” Luostarinen said.

The Panthers went 2/3 on the man-advantage.

Panthers’ fourth line has solid game

Florida’s fourth line of Will Lockwood, Kevin Stenlund and Ryan Lomberg have gelled nicely together since being put together two weeks ago.

On their first shift of the game, Lockwood dropped the gloves with Montreal’s Micheal Pezzeta — who has about 35 pounds on him.

“He’s doing everything he possibly can to become a permanent fixture here,” head coach Paul Maurice said. “He shows up on that wing and all of a sudden that line’s got an identity.”

The trio combined for 6 of Florida’s 26 total shots on goal, with Lomberg’s four shots all Panthers skaters.

“I enjoy sending them on the ice,” Maurice added. “I’m looking forward to see what’s going to happen. I know they’re going to go fast and who knows what else is going to happen. It’s fun to watch.”

Maurice has spoken highly of this line for the last few weeks now. It looks like they’ll be sticking together for a bit.

Florida wins four straight

Just two weeks ago, the Panthers were in the middle of their worst stretch of hockey all season.

Florida was 1-4-0 from Dec. 12-21, scoring just twice in the four losses.

On Dec. 23, with the Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights in town, the Panthers played one of their better games of the season, leading to a 4-2 win.

The Panthers would then win their next three contests, beating the Lightning on the road and then both the Rangers and the Canadiens at home.

Winners of their last four to end 2023, the Panthers are standing near the top of the Eastern conference with 46 points in 36 games — only behind the Rangers and Bruins.

“Our team’s playing really good hockey right now,” Sam Bennett said. “We’ll have some confidence going into this road trip for sure.”

This stretch of wins is huge going forward as the Panthers will be on the road for their next four games, all against quality opponents; Coyotes, Golden Knights, Avalanche and the Blues.

Panthers Notes

Eetu Luostarinen scored twice, Sam Bennett had the Panthers’ third goal and Carter Verhaeghe iced it away with an empty netter in the 4-1 win.

The Panthers next game will be Jan. 2 in Arizona against the Coyotes.
