Marlins Make Franchise History: Sweep Yankees, Back to .500
The Miami Marlins just completed their first ever sweep of the New York Yankees and find themselves back at .500 for the first time since April 15th. The Marlins also have now won six series in a row, tying a franchise record set from June 5-27, 1997. Marlins fans showed up and the Fish showed out, let’s dive into the Marlins most complete series of the season.
Game 1 (August 1, 2025): Marlins 13, Yankees 12
This was a wild, high-scoring affair that saw the Marlins edge out the Yankees in dramatic fashion. The Yankees jumped out to a 6-0 lead early, powered by a three-run homer from former Marlin Giancarlo Stanton, and rbi singles from Jasson Dominguez and Cody Bellinger. They extended their lead to 9-4, but the Marlins mounted a comeback off of the Yankees newly acquired relievers—Jake Bird, David Bednar, and Camilo Doval allowing nine earned runs combined.
With a six-run seventh inning, the Marlins tied the game, highlighted by Kyle Stowers’ grand slam and Javier Sanoja’s solo homer (his second of the game). Agustin Ramirez extended the Marlins lead to 10-9 before the Yankees regained the lead at 12-10. In the ninth, Xavier Edwards tied the game with a two-run single off Doval, helped by an error from newly acquired Jose Caballero. Then Edwards scored the winning run on Agustín Ramírez’s chopper, securing a 13-12 walk-off victory for Miami. The game, attended by 32,299 fans, lasted 3 hours and 43 minutes. The Marlins improved to 53-55, while the Yankees fell to 60-50.

Game 2 (August 2, 2025): Marlins 2, Yankees 0
Game 3 (August 3, 2025): Marlins 7, Yankees 3
With a chance to get back to .500 the Marlins didn’t shy away. The Yankees got out to a 1-0 lead after a Trent Grisham home run in the first inning and the Marlins quickly responded. In the third inning the Marlins got three back as Troy Johnston recorded his first double and RBI, scoring Heriberto Hernandez, then a Xavier Edwards single and Kyle Stowers sacrifice fly pushed the lead to two.
After Graham Pauley walked and Xavier Edwards singled, Aaron Boone pulled Gil with Stowers looming. Brent Headrick came into replace Gil and Kyle Stowers made the Yankees pay, hitting his first home run off of a lefty this season, and his 25th of the year.
Edward Cabrera continued to mow down the Yankees finishing the day with 6 innings pitched, 2 hits, 1 earned run and 7 strikeouts (Cabrera’s first ever start with 100 pitches). The Yankees responded in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer from former Marlin Jazz Chisholm Jr. off of Josh Simpson. The Marlins answered right back as Otto Lopez drew a walk, then Jakob Marsee got his first career triple that scored Lopez for his first career RBI.
In the top of the eight, Simpson came back out to face the lefty Trent Grisham and walked him. The Yankees then pinch-hit Paul Goldschmidt for Ben Rice. Reliever Ronny Henriquez came in and got three quick outs, striking out Goldy, getting Bellinger to fly out, and striking out Stanton.
Jt Brubaker came back out for the bottom of the eighth and prevented the Marlins from adding any insurance.
Lake Bachar came in for the ninth and slammed the door, striking out the side resulting in a 7-3 win.

Looking Ahead
The Marlins now sit at .500 but still find themselves six games back of the third Wild Card spot. They’ll stay home to host the Houston Astros next, looking to break the franchise record with their seventh straight series win. As we approach the end of the season, if the Marlins can keep stacking series wins, they’ll be right in the thick of the playoff race come September — and maybe even surprise the rest of the league.
For a team that looked out of it just weeks ago, the Fish suddenly have new life. The next few weeks could define whether this run is just a fun summer surge or something truly special in Miami; and if I had to bet, even if it’s not this season, something special is definitely brewing in Hialeah, Florida.

What an incredible weekend it was for the Marlins. The team has gone from 16 games under .500 in mid-June to sweeping the Yankees to reach .500. That is the kind of momentum every manager dreams of. Not to mention Kyle Stowers himself driving the sweep with 2 homers and 8 RBIs! Not to sound condescending but that is the kind of output that fantasy shackles and yes, fpl points predictorare created to show it. The excitement in that stadium must have been wonderous. As it is the Marlins are now comfortably placed for the wildcard playoffs. As for the Yankees, this won’t feel great. Having to quickly regroup and add reliable arms to the roster competing for playoff spots is tough. The ups and downs this season for Miami feel like they are straight out of the movies.
