Marlins to option Braxton Garrett to Triple-A after rough start
MIAMI — While it wasn’t necessarily his fault, Braxton Garrett is going down with the ship.
After falling to the Atlanta Braves 8-4 on Tuesday, the Miami Marlins will send Garrett back to Triple-A Jacksonville after his second straight lackluster outing, as reported by MLB.com.
Garrett gave up two runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts in three innings. He posted a 14.54 ERA with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings over two starts since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville.
“A little bit better, still not good enough, obviously,” Garrett said after the game.
Garrett tossed 65 pitches and after two smoother innings compared to the first, he could have went out in the fourth.
“I just went back to thinking like my old self, pushing towards first a little bit to keep my front side closed, because that’s kind of been the problem,” Garrett said. “Just the body wanted to go, go, go, go very fast, and just pushing out towards first cleans that up, and it felt natural. So, I can definitely take that away and build on it”.
With the Marlins leading 4-2 at the time, manager Clayton McCullough opted to go with the bullpen the rest of the way. The Braves went on to score six unanswered runs including three in the eighth inning to take the lead. Matt Olsen drove in three runs on two hits for the Braves and Michael Harris II hit a solo home run that tied the game in the sixth inning.
The series continues on Wednesday with Janson Junk (2-4, 4.14 ERA) taking the ball for the Marlins against the Braves and their Ace, Chris Sale (6-3, 1.96 ERA).
