Marlins look to pick up where they left off after All-Star break
The Miami Marlins travel to Milwaukee to take on the National League Central leading Brewers on Friday.
The Fightin’ Fish look to continue their winning ways on the other side of the MLB All-Star break. Since June 1, the Marlins own a Major League-best 26-11 record and were as high as 10 games over .500 entering their previous series.
Despite being swept by the Cleveland Guardians at home, the Marlins (52-45) remain in control of the third NL wild card spot. The Marlins are 10-3-1 in series play since the start of June.
The Marlins were represented by shortstop Otto Lopez and RHP Max Meyer at the 96th annual MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday, July 14. Meyer didn’t pitch and Lopez knocked in one of the NL’s four hits in a 4-0 loss against the AL.
Lopez, who became the first Marlins shortstop to be named an NL All-Star since Hanley Ramírez in 2010, owns a League-best .334 batting average. Along with second baseman Xavier Edwards (.303) the Marlins remain the only National League team to have two players with 100+ hits on the year. The duo also sports six triples each.
Meyer became the first Marlins starting pitcher to be named an All-Star since Sandy Alcantara in 2022. Meyer, who leads the Marlins with a 2.58 ERA and 116 strikeouts, is scheduled to start tomorrow’s game for the Marlins.
Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers found his swing in June. He has been slashing .301/.379/.663 (25×83) over his last 22 games since June 17 with 15 runs, five doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 20 RBI.
The Marlins found their defensive identity since calling up rookie catcher Joe Mack. One of the top prospects entering the season, Mack made his debut on May 4 and is tied for second in the big leagues with 17 caught stealings.
