Miami Hurricanes: Mario Cristobal heaps praise on John Campbell Jr.

The Miami Hurricanes held media day on Tuesday and there certainly were some notable quotes from head coach Mario Cristobal. He gave high praise to offensive lineman John Campbell Jr.

Campbell is coming off a rough 2021 campaign that saw him in recovery mode following a surgery on his leg. He did see action in the previous season, playing in seven games in 2020. He made four starts that season.  He also was able to see the field and 11 games in his redshirt freshman season of 2019 and he gave Miami Hurricanes fans a little bit of a taste in regards to what he could do.

The redshirt junior could have a chance to make an impact on offensive line now that he is fully healthy. He also has a chance to work with offensive line coach Alex Mirabal, something that should help him in his development. The potential is undoubtedly there, it’s now is going to be about him getting back to that level following his injury.

In speaking with the media on Tuesday, Cristobal gave him high praise, as transcribed by Marcus Benjamin of Rivals.com.

It’s very telling that Cristobal holds Campbell in high regard. Miami should have a solid group of returners on the line, but depth is also extremely important. Having a player like Campbell really emerge again is a welcome sign. For one thing, it means he is healthy. On top of his health, he is also to get a chance to work with a coach like Mirabal. Health and top-tier coaching should give him a bit of a fresh start.

It will be intriguing to see where he falls in the offensive lineman equation. As long as he has a solid camp, I feel like he will be able to make some noise in the fall. He has the experience, now it’s going to be more about seeing what he can do under a new coaching staff.

Miami Hurricanes: Abram Murray gives program piece of mind at kicker

The Miami Hurricanes were able to get a commitment for the 2024 class as Abram Murray committed to the program on Sunday night.

He is the top kicker in the class of 2024 according to Kohl’s Kicking Camps. He most recently took an unofficial visit to Miami on June 11, and the program offered him that same day.

What can he bring to Miami Hurricanes?

This is a massive get for the Miami Hurricanes as it helps solidify the kicking possession. This adds depth to the kicking position, with Andres Borregales holding it down at the position right now. Having Borregales in the fold assures that Miami will have a strong kicking game for the foreseeable future.

Murray has a very strong leg. He is able to use his strength and accuracy to make the most out of his kicks. He has a solid follow-through and plants his legs well when kicking, which allows him to have a solid base. Murray is a complete player in terms of his skill set, and he will be a nice option once Borregales leaves. Murray is certainly no slouch, and is worthy of his ranking as one of the best kickers in his class.

This is the second commitment for Miami in what is a developing but promising 2024 recruiting class. He is the second commitment, along with cornerback Antoine Jackson. We have seen the work Miami has done in the 2023 class. I’m curious as to what kind of work they will get done for 2024.

Special teams is a huge component of the game. I personally would argue that it’s often overlooked. Getting a guy like Murray to come to the program is massive. Stability at a position like kicker is hard to find. Finding a good college football kicker is also extremely difficult. Now, Miami has has two, with Murray waiting in the wings.  It’s all about depth, and Miami is building it at as many positions as possible.

Miami Hurricanes add to loaded LB room with Malik Bryant commitment

The Miami Hurricanes continued their strong momentum for the 2023 recruiting class, as linebacker Malik Bryant committed to the program on Wednesday afternoon.

Bryant is a four-star linebacker. He is the fourth overall linebacker in the 2023 class, and the 15th overall player in the class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He was recruited by the likes of Florida, Maryland, Alabama, and Arizona State in addition to Miami. Bryant was recruited to the program by Charlie Strong. This is the second linebacker that Strong as recruited in the past month. He was also able to get a commitment from Raul Aguirre on July 12.

He transferred to IMG Academy in 2020, and was named an all-American in his  sophomore and junior seasons.

What can he bring to the Miami Hurricanes?

Although Bryant plays the linebacker position, , he can come off the edge effectively as well. As soon as the ball is snapped, he is able to fire off the ball and make a play. He has a good initial speed burst, and uses that speed burst to disrupt plays and the backfield. Bryant plays more like a defensive end tham linebacker.

Bryant is a player that can come in and immediately make an impact in the Miami Hurricanes linebacker room. They already have several impactful defensive players in Jayden Wayne and Aguirre. Bryant is another solid addition to a 2023 class that is extremely talented. They rank seventh overall in the country per the 247Sports Team Rankings. This gives Miami depth and not just a body, but talented depth.

Miami now has three players in this class alone that they can build a defense around. Some fans were upset that Miami struck out on recruits last week. This commitment was a big one.

The Miami Hurricanes have done a nice job of building the 2023 class, and Bryant’s commitment adds to it. Who’s next?

Miami Hurricanes land four-star LB Raul Aguirre, add to loaded class

The Miami Hurricanes had a big Tuesday as they were able to land a commitment from 2023 four-star linebacker Raul Aguirre.

Aguirre  is the ninth overall linebacker in the 2023 class, and the ninth overall player in his class from the state of Georgia per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He had a variety of offers on the table, some from the best programs in the country. He had offers from Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, and Arkansas in addition to Miami.

Aguirre measures in at six-foot-two, 220 pounds. He was recruited to the program by Charlie Strong.

What can he bring to the Miami Hurricanes?

He will be able to bring sure tackling and good instincts to the Miami defense. As soon as the football is snapped, he is immediately able to identify the ball carrier and make a play. This allows plays to be stopped before they even develop.

One of Aguirre’s best strengths is run defense. In red zone situations, he can fill gaps quickly and stop running backs from gaining extra yards.

Overall, Miami is getting a hard-hitter and a player that is quick. He is not a one-dimensional player and that’s exactly what you need in today’s game. He is a good fit for the game of football today. Linebackers now have to be fast and quick in addition to hard-hitters, Aguirre has all of those traits.

This has been a very strong month for the Miami Hurricanes in terms of recruiting. Miami now has the seventh overall class in the country per the 247Sports Team Rankings. They have been able to do a good job of getting impact recruits on both sides of the football.

Miami has landed four recruits in the month of July, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them nab at least one more. The momentum in recruiting is strong right now, and the program has done a good job capitalizing on it.

Miami Hurricanes: Five-star edge defender Jayden Wayne commits

The good news continues on the recruiting trail continued for the Miami Hurricanes. They landed five-star edge defender Jayden Wayne on Saturday.

Wayne is the fifth overall edge defender in the 2023 class, and the 10th overall player in his class from the state of Florida the 247Sports Rankings. He has a numerical ranking of 95.

He was recruited to Miami by co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Rod Wright. Defensive line coach Joe Salave’a was the secondary recruiter.

What can he bring to the Miami Hurricanes?

Wayne will bring a massive boost to the Miami Hurricanes edge-rushing presence. He measures in at six-foot-four, 270 pounds already. He is extremely quick, and is a nightmare for offensive lines to guard. His speed burst is something that is the most noticeable when looking at his highlights. As soon as the ball is snapped, it’s like he is shot out of a cannon. He immediately uses that quickness to wrap up the quarterback.

The edge rusher position is one that has become a stand-alone position. Nowadays, elite programs have a dominant edge rusher. With how offensive- minded the game of football is today, it’s a necessity. Miami wants to take the next step. They got a player that can help them do that.

Edge rusher has been a priority for the Miami Hurricanes. We saw them rectify the problem for this year with a couple of transfers, and a promising recruit in Cyrus Moss. Wayne’s commitment takes it to a whole other level. This is a player that can be a staple of the defense for years to come.

Furthermore, this speaks to the recruiting job that the coaching staff has been able to do. They identified a weakness, and they have filled it. Not only have they filled it, they have landed an impact player.

Miami now has the ninth overall recruiting class in the country per the 247Sports Team Rankings. Wayne gives Miami their third five-star commitment in the class.

Miami Hurricanes: Francis Mauigoa commitment is a game-changer

It has been an incredible week for the Miami Hurricanes in terms of recruiting, and that continued on Monday afternoon. With many celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks, Miami created some fireworks of their own. They landed 2023 offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa.

Mauigoa is the top offensive tackle in the 2023 class, and the third overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports composite rankings. He had several offers on the table, including Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and USC. However, he elected to choose Miami.

What can he bring to the Miami Hurricanes?

Measuring in at six-foot-five, 330 pounds, he will be able to bring a physical presence to the offensive line. He is absolutely intimidating for opposing defensive lineman, and he has everything that Miami is looking for at the position.

As soon as the ball is snapped, Mauigoa is able to extend his hands and quickly get the advantage on his man. He is able to finish his blocks, and create lanes for a running back. His ability to finish blocks is particularly helpful for an east-west running back that can bounce to the outside. He stays engaged in the play until it is completely over. Not only does he stay engaged,

This is the type of lineman that the Miami Hurricanes have been looking for. This coaching staff wants physical lineman in the program. Working with offensive line coach Alex Mirabal should help Mauigoa. Mauigoa fits the exact profile that the program has been looking for in a lineman recruit.

Mauigoa is a game-changing recruit for the program, and it puts them firmly inside the top 10. They now have the eighth overall recruiting class in the country per the 247Sports Team Rankings. Miami is now entering the territory that sees them among the elite in all of college football in terms of recruiting for 2023.

Obviously, we want to see the results on the field. However, the 2023 Miami Hurricanes recruiting class is showing a ton of promise. It’s been a wild couple of weeks for the Hurricanes in terms of recruiting. We shall see if there are more surprises along the way.

Miami Hurricanes start off ’24 in style with Antione Jackson commitment

The Miami Hurricanes have been on an absolute tear on the recruiting trail over the past couple of days, and their good fortune continued on Saturday. 2024 four-star safety Antione Jackson committed to the program,  flipping from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Jackson is the 13th overall safety in the 2024 class, and the 31st overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Jackson had a relatively small offer sheet. However the offers he did have really stood out. In addition to Miami, he also had offers from the likes of Georgia and Alabama. Auburn was also in the mix as well.

What can he bring to the Miami Hurricanes?

Jackson is a versatile safety, and he would be able to help the Miami Hurricanes defense tremendously. He is a good cover safety, as well as a player who is not afraid to come up and make a big hit. And watching some of his highlights, it is evident that he has good tracking ability. It’s almost as if he plays the corner position. He is not afraid to cover a receiver, and that is a big part of his game.

As soon as the ball is snapped, he is able to use his quick instincts to back the football and make a play. This is very similar to play style of Robert Stafford, a 2023 commit. Much like Stafford, Jackson has that same type of cover corner mentality. If is exactly what the Miami Hurricanes want to do in the secondary, and that will benefit the program immensely. It gives them another type of shutdown corner that quarterbacks will be afraid to throw towards.

This is a massive commitment as Miami is able to land their first quarter stone commitment of the 2024 class. They have been looking for one, and they were able to get it in Jackson. Not only that, this helps Miami beef up their secondary room for the future, and continue the pipeline of productive safeties in the program.

The Hurricanes have been on a tear in terms of recruiting, and Saturday was no different. Mario Cristobal in the coaching staff were able to land their guy yet again.

Miami Hurricanes continue to roll with Riley Williams commitment

The Miami Hurricanes added another big playmaker to their tight end room on Friday afternoon. 2023 four-star tight end Riley Williams committed to the Hurricanes on Friday evening.

Williams is the second overall tight end in his class, and the 15th overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He has several offers on the table from big-time schools. In the end, Miami was competing with Alabama and Ohio State. Ultimately, they were able to seal the deal.

Tight ends coach Stephen Feld was his primary recruiter.

What can he bring to the Miami Hurricanes?

Measuring in at six-foot-six, 230 pounds, Williams is a force to be reckoned with at the position. His size is evident, especially in the red zone. He is the type of tight end that allows quarterbacks to just throw the football up with confidence. He has tremendous athleticism, and is able to use that size to pull catches in from tough angles.

Williams is not limited to red zone play however. He also has the ability to play well in the open field. As soon as he catches the football, he is able to make things happen after the catch. His speed translates very well for the tight end position, and that will allow him to be a multi-faceted weapon, not just a red zone target.

This is the third tight end in an absolutely loaded 2023 class. The Miami Hurricanes now have three tight ends that could easily get the starting job. The tight end battles during camp are going to be must-see TV.

The Miami 2023 recruiting class is continuing to climb. They now have 11 overall commitments, including five four-star commitments. The class ranks 14th overall per the 247Sorts Team Rankings.

This is an absolutely major get for the Miami Hurricanes, and I would expect this class to continue to grow. We could be looking at a top 10 recruiting class sooner rather than later.

Miami Hurricanes: Robert Stafford commit adds to banner week

It has been an incredible recruiting week for the Miami Hurricanes, and that continued on Thursday as they landed four-star athlete Robert Stafford.

Stafford is the 12th overall athlete in the 2023 recruiting class, and the 34th overall player in the class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He had a sizable offer sheet, as he landed 44 in total. Some of the bigger offers included Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas A&M.

He was recruited to the Hurricanes by defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae.

What can he bring to Miami Hurricanes?

Stafford will be able to bring a physical playstyle to the Miami Hurricanes. Watching some of his highlights, it’s evident that one of his strengths is his closing speed. He is able to get to a receiver quickly and break up a pass. His instincts are extremely strong and his reaction time allows him to have a chance at the football.

Stafford does not seem to go for the big play. He stays square with his man, and that allows him to be able to cover a receiver step- for-step. He gives Miami a lockdown corner who also has the ability to make a big play. He has the type of skills that will allow him to be able to take away one side of the field.

In even simpler terms, this is a guy that Addae is going to love to work with. The combination of player and coach should be a tremendous asset for Miami.

This just adds to what has been a banner week for the Miami Hurricanes. In a span of four days, the program has been able to land three impact players in quarterback Jaden Rashada, wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph, and now Stafford. The 2023 recruiting class ranks number 20 overall per the 247Sports Team Rankings,

This has been a fantastic week for the Miami Hurricanes, and I expect some more good news fairly soon. Right now, this coaching staff can’t be stopped.

Miami Hurricanes land WR Nathaniel Joseph as Gattis continues to roll

The Miami Hurricanes continue to make an impact on the recruiting trail and they did so on Tuesday night. They landed a commitment from 2023 four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph.

Joseph is the 16th overall wide receiver in the 2023 class.  He is the 23rd overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247 Sports Composite Rankings and has a numerical rating of 93 from 247Sports. He was initially committed to Clemson, and made his pledge on September 10, 2021. Joseph decommitted from the program on June 14, 2022.

Joseph was recruited to the Miami Hurricanes by offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. Gattis has had a string of solid commitments best in the past couple of days. He helped the program land four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada on Sunday and now he has landed Joseph for the wide receiver room. He has had himself quite a week, and it isn’t over yet.

What can Joseph bring to Miami Hurricanes?

Joseph brings a variety of skills to the Miami Hurricanes. For one, he is a solid kick returner. He can use his speed to get upfield quickly as soon as he catches the football. This makes him especially dangerous on the special teams unit.

That speed translates well as a wide receiver. He is on the shorter side at five-foot-eight, 170 pounds. However, that is when his speed really comes into play. He is able to make things happen after the catch. He is one of those players that all you need to do is get the football in his hands. Once he gets the ball in his hands, he can let his natural skill take over.

I could see certain instances where Miami could use him in the backfield in terms of trick plays in certain situations. Again, with these types of speedy playmakers, all you need to do is get them the football and let them go to work. Joseph is a dynamic playmaker that can help the Hurricanes open up their offense and allow them a little flexibility in terms of playcalling.

Currently, the 2023 Miami Hurricanes recruiting class ranks 26th overall nationally. This is a class that now has three four-star commitments. Rashada and athlete Robby Washington are the others.

This is a very talented class for the Miami Hurricanes and it seems like the commitments are continuing to fly. This is he Mario Cristobal effect. Hopefully, it can translate on the field.
