Miami Hurricanes: Abram Murray gives program piece of mind at kicker

The Miami Hurricanes were able to get a commitment for the 2024 class as Abram Murray committed to the program on Sunday night.

He is the top kicker in the class of 2024 according to Kohl’s Kicking Camps. He most recently took an unofficial visit to Miami on June 11, and the program offered him that same day.

What can he bring to Miami Hurricanes?

This is a massive get for the Miami Hurricanes as it helps solidify the kicking possession. This adds depth to the kicking position, with Andres Borregales holding it down at the position right now. Having Borregales in the fold assures that Miami will have a strong kicking game for the foreseeable future.

Murray has a very strong leg. He is able to use his strength and accuracy to make the most out of his kicks. He has a solid follow-through and plants his legs well when kicking, which allows him to have a solid base. Murray is a complete player in terms of his skill set, and he will be a nice option once Borregales leaves. Murray is certainly no slouch, and is worthy of his ranking as one of the best kickers in his class.

This is the second commitment for Miami in what is a developing but promising 2024 recruiting class. He is the second commitment, along with cornerback Antoine Jackson. We have seen the work Miami has done in the 2023 class. I’m curious as to what kind of work they will get done for 2024.

Special teams is a huge component of the game. I personally would argue that it’s often overlooked. Getting a guy like Murray to come to the program is massive. Stability at a position like kicker is hard to find. Finding a good college football kicker is also extremely difficult. Now, Miami has has two, with Murray waiting in the wings.  It’s all about depth, and Miami is building it at as many positions as possible.
