Will Marsee be the next Miami Marlin to pop?

Jakob Marsee, coming over in 2024 in the Luis Arraez trade from San Diego, is sitting in wait for his opportunity in Little Havana. His full season slash line (.246/.373/.442) doesn’t come across as pretty as it truly is, due to a rough start with the bat to begin. However, he has begun to kick it on all cylinders as of late, absolutely crushing it in June.

7 HR, 3 3B, 15 RBI

Marsee is graded by MLB Pipeline with a 50 Hit tool, 55 Run tool, 50 Arm tool, and a 55 Field tool. A little bit on the older side, as a 24 year old, the 6th round pick is finally taking flight in 2025, with his best season since 2023, where he had an .838 OPS in A+. Being a fully toolsy player, and his stats finally showing the skill he has, Miami can’t ignore that for long.

However, the biggest difficulty for Marsee is finding an opening spot for him. Unless there’s an injury that occurs, the Miami outfield is full, and actually playing competitive baseball, as the three mainstay starters (Jesus Sanchez, Dane Myers, and Kyle Stowers) are combined for a stat line of:

(3.4 bWAR)

.275/.335/.452

26 HR, 94 RBI

67:193 BB:K

The only clear option, and the option that would make the most for Miami, would be a trade to clear up a spot. With all 3 outfielders at 27 or older, you wonder if they fit the right age range for the Marlins competitive window. The move that would make the most sense here would be a trade to create an opening. This 2025 season for the Marlins isn’t an extremely competitive one, albeit they have left their heart out on the field in every single game.

The 2025 Marlins have been all about seeing what they have, seeing what players can play and can stay with the team, and what players can’t continue to compete at the Major League Level. To continue to block a young player like Marsee, who has nothing left to prove in Jacksonville, would be the opposite of the team’s identity.
