The Miami Heat will be sending two representatives to the All Star Game in Chicago. Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo will both be there, as the reserves were announced Thursday night.
For Butler, this will be his fifth All-Star appearance. Adebayo will be appearing in the game for the first time.
Butler is having a great year for Miami. Many thought he was snubbed for not being a starter, with the selections taking place last week. On the season, Butler is averaging 20.2 points per contest to go along with 6.9 rebounds per game and 6.4 assists per game.
Both are thriving for Miami Heat
Butler’s impact goes beyond the statistics sheet however. He is a veteran on a youthful basketball team. While the team itself may have flaws, Butler has helped carry this group and masked those deficiencies. By all accounts, it seems like he is embracing the role of being a leader. His guidance is allowing Miami to stay in the hunt for a top spot in the Eastern Conference standings. In what has been an overachieving year for the team, he has led the way.
Adebayo is having a tremendous year himself. He is averaging 16 points per game on the season to go along with 10.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists per contest. The rebounds, assists, and points are all career-highs for him. He has established himself as a dependable player for Miami. Miami has been waiting for him to have this type of year ever since he came into the league in 2017.
Now, it appears he is delivering. Not only that, Adebayo looks extremely comfortable within the offense.
With two Miami representatives in the game, there will certainly be something for Heat fans to watch. In what should be a fun weekend overall, these selections give the game a little extra meaning for players and fans alike.

A familiar face is coming back to Coral Gables. The Miami Hurricanes have hired Ed Reed as Chief of Staff for the program.
According to the program’s official press release, Reid will serve in an advisory role to head coach Manny Diaz. Reed will take on duties that include strategic planning, operations, quality control, and player evaluation and development. He also serve in an athletic mentor role and help recruit players as much as the NCAA allows.
A smart move for the Miami Hurricanes
This is certainly an impactful move for the program. Reed was one of the best Miami Hurricanes players of all-time. Playing from 1997-2001, he was part of the most recent golden age for the program. He led the nation with nine interceptions in the 2001 season and was named the 2001 co-Big East defensive player of the year. He was undoubtedly the heart and soul of those great defensive teams. That is certainly saying something when you consider who else was on the roster.
Reed was a first-team All American in 2000 and 2001. Those Miami Hurricanes teams posted a 23-1 record. They were at the pinnacle of the college football mountain. Some still talk about that 2001 Hurricanes team to this day, and they are continually in the conversation as one of the best college teams of all time.
Having Reed on the recruiting trail would be tremendous for Miami. When you consider his body of work both at Miami and at the professional level, there is no denying he was successful. A Pro football Hall of Famer in 2019, he has been successful everywhere he has went. His role with the program certainly checks off many boxes. It will be interesting to see where he contributes most. Just having his name attached to the football program is a huge win for the Miami Hurricanes.

As the coverage for Super Bowl week continues, we are hearing from many of the game’s top players. Tua Tagovailoa is someone that has been on the mind of Miami Dolphins fans. With the fifth pick, the Dolphins believe that the Alabama prospect could be the quarterback they’ve been searching for. And according to Andy Slater, Tua’s dad feels the same.
Tua wants to get drafted by the Dolphins?
Early Thursday on radio row, @FoxSports640 producer @sdiener86 told Tua’s dad he hopes his son gets taken by Miami.
The organization has been looking for a quarterback since Dan Marino. Although there have been several signal-callers that have filled in, none of them have been a franchise quarterback. There is a belief that the Dolphins will do whatever it takes to get the college football star.
In the meantime, it seems like Tua Tagovailoa is taking it all in stride. In speaking to the media on Thursday, the quarterback notes the comparisons to Marino honored him. Nevertheless, he recognizes that he has things to accomplish. If anything, that speaks to his humility and desire to be great. He even shouted out to Marino, saying that “It means the world” that Marino thinks he could be a star.
He also opened up to Mackenzie Salmon of USA Today about his hip injury. The quarterback’s hip is getting better, but he doesn’t have a timeline on when he will be back. A CAT scan and MRI will take place a week from Monday. At that point, it will have been 12 weeks since he suffered a devastating injury. The injury itself is something that may affect his draft stock
What's the latest with Tua Tagovailoa's hip? We ask the man himself as well as the prospects of playing in Miami full time. #SBLIV#USATRRhttps://t.co/QvTinyMMpk
Medicals are something to watch for Miami Dolphins
The Tua-Miami Dolphins connection seems to be stronger than ever. As he prepares for the NFL Draft, one has to wonder if any further developments will come out. The medical piece, in regards to how healed he is from his injury, is something to watch for. This is crucial for him as he looks to solidify his stock as a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft. It’s something that the Dolphins and the rest of the league will be paying attention to. For now, it seems like he is just enjoying the process of being a coveted NFL prospect.

Things often come full circle in life. Just ask running back Damien Williams. Who’s again where he started his career, calling Miami home for the next week as he prepares to play in the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. However, he’s not wearing a Miami Dolphins jersey. Instead, he is donning Kansas City Chiefs colors. His trip from Kansas City to Miami takes around five hours and 35 minutes by plane. Just as the 1,469.7-mile journey seems lengthy, so to has been Williams’ path to get here.
He began his college football career at Arizona Western College. After a few seasons there, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma, a breeding ground for running backs. Here, he encountered his first bump in the road. After a 2012 season saw him rush for 946 yards and 11 touchdowns in 13 games, he followed that up with an impressive 2013 season. Rushing the rock hundred 14 times for 553 yards and seven touchdowns, he put up those numbers in nine games.
Those numbers were indeed not indicative of a setback.
Miami Dolphins save Damien Williams
The setback came in 2013. where he was dismissed from Oklahoma for violating team rules. Head coach Bob Stoops never gave a reason for his dismissal. Thus, his next step was going to the NFL Draft. Surely someone who put up the type of numbers he had, in albeit a brief college career, would be able to find a team rather easily, right?
Not exactly. Williams went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft. Luckily for him, the Miami Dolphins came calling. It would be a four-year partnership between the Miami Dolphins and Williams. He didn’t put up eye-popping numbers, but you could tell the talent was there. His best season for Miami came in 2017. He played 11 games, starting four of them. Rushing 46 times for 181 yards, he also proved to be a bit of a receiving threat. He would also catch 20 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown.
The 2017 season saw him get tendered by Miami for $1.797 million. After Jay Ajayi was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, Williams was named a starter ahead of Kenyan Drake. He showed glimpses of potential, but injuries set him back a bit. A dislocated shoulder in Week 12 gave the starting job to Drake. Drake blossomed as the starter, and that was effectively the end of Williams’s career with the Dolphins.
Since signing with Kansas City in the 2018 offseason, he has paid his dues. From playing behind Kareem Hunt to getting the starting opportunity last season, he has undoubtedly been biding his time. He ended up having a solid 2018 season, rushing the ball 50 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns, the four TDs were a career-high at the time.
Now, he finds himself back in Miami, set to play in the Super Bowl. In what was a running back-by-committee approach this year for Kansas City, he has adjusted to different roles numerous times throughout the season.

With the 49ers and Chiefs squaring off in Miami for Super Bowl LIV, Miami will be abuzz for the next two weeks. While tickets to the game itself are approaching all-time highs, the most affordable way to get into the spirit in 2020 may be Super Bowl Experience, which kicks off on January 25th and runs through February 1st. Spread across 500,000 square feet at the Miami Convention center, it’s a must visit for fans of all ages. Kids under 12 years old are free for the first time in the history of the Super Bowl Experience. For local Miami fans, prices are cheaper and crowds will be thinner during the first two days.
Last year, 140,000 people participated in the Super Bowl Experience. For the 2020 edition, the league is expecting 100,000 – 150,000 people per day for the nine day duration. Tickets remain available from Ticketmaster, and you don’t need to worry about the time slots when purchasing. Those are only enforced if the event is at capacity which isn’t likely. As an example, can buy for the 11am slot, but still go at 2pm.
Where Does 2020 Super Bowl Experience Take Place
This year’s Super Bowl Experience will be at the Miami Beach Convention Center, which is located in the heart of Miami Beach. The Miami Beach Convention Center is easily accessible from the three major causeways: I-395 (McArthur Causeway), I-195 (Julia Tuttle Causeway) and Venetian Causeway. For more detailed directions and parking options, you can visit the site directly.
Where To Buy Super Bowl Experience Tickets
Fans can purchase tickets for a set date, and the NFL is offering free entry to active military on Wednesday, January 29, as well as kids 12 and under every day. There’s also the opportunity to upgrade tickets. Tickets are available directly from Ticketmaster, the League’s official partner, and it’s important not to shop on the secondary market, where prices can be listed above face value, even though tickets remain available on Ticketmaster.
Tickets range from $20 to $40 based on the day you choose to attend.
SBXTRA access costs $60, and includes priority access to the autograph stage, Vince Lombardi Trophy (pictured below), interactive games and the NFL PLAY 60 Clinic, as well as early entry to the venue. Priority access is similar to a theme-park “FastPass.” and helps navigate the experience as quickly and easily as possible.
The multi-day pass costs $50 allows you to visit as much as you want to enjoy your favorite parts of the event again.
As mentioned above, you don’t need to worry about the time slots when purchasing. As an example, if you’re checking out and see the below options, and want to go at 11am, you’re fine to buy the 4pm pass and show up at 11am.
All Super Bowl Experience tickets are time stamped for entry, but according to the NFL, a ticket will be honored on the day for which it was purchased regardless of the time stamp.

On a day filled with tears and shock after the tragic death of five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, no indication was given that league games on Sunday would be canceled.
“Sorry I don’t have a lot to say,” Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said in an emotional pregame press conference. “I have to go talk to a team before a game and tell them to play.”
The same man who once rallied his team following the release of Donald Sterling’s tapes during the 2014 NBA Playoffs was ready to galvanize the Clippers locker room once more. But not in the cliché ways many would imagine.
“We laughed and joked about the ‘Mamba mentality,” Rivers said. “We’re all gonna need it right now.”
Per the wisdom of Bryant, Rivers’ strategy paid off. The Clippers embraced their former crosstown nemesis’ legacy, overpowering the Orlando Magic 112-97.
Both teams began Sunday’s game by honoring Bryant with something uncharacteristic of the NBA legend: turnovers. Los Angeles’ 24-second shot clock violation and Orlando’s eight-second turnover paid homage to Bryant’s jersey numbers. The Clippers reversed their season trend of fast offensive starts, scoring only 26 points in the first quarter. And Kawhi Leonard earned only three points and one assist in the first 12 minutes after his slash-and-kick attempts did not create immediate success for his teammates.
Then the ‘Mamba mentality’ kicked in.
Leonard found his rhythm in the second quarter, scoring nine points within six minutes and 51 seconds of play. Leonard’s mid-range prowess mirrored that of Bryant’s as the Magic failed to find any answers to Kawhi’s 31 points.
“Knowing him personally, I know he’d want me to come out here and ball and still just be great,” Leonard said when reflecting on Bryant’s legacy. “No words can explain the impact he had on the sport.”
All of Los Angeles’ starters posted a plus-minus of +17 or higher on Sunday. Leonard (+26) led the lineup while Maurice Harkless (+24), Patrick Patterson (+22), and Ivica Zubac (+20) helped limit the Magic to less than 100 points.
Despite Orlando’s 46 bench points — thanks to high-percentage penetration from Michael Carter-Williams and the post presence of Mo Bamba — the Magic struggled to find reliable scoring options.
Nikola Vucevic and Evan Fournier were limited to a combined 24 points. Fournier made 1 of 8 three-point attempts as the Magic shot 21.9% from beyond the arc. Their shooting troubles continued at the free-throw line as they only converted 22 of 32 foul attempts.
During pregame, Magic head coach Steve Clifford noticed how the news regarding Bryant dampened the spirits of his players.
“It’s just a different feeling for sure. You can sense it in the locker room. It’s a tough day for our league and sports fans and his family. There’s not many guys like him.
“Listen, I just told the guys this: We weren’t a team at the beginning of the season that was a going to be an offensive juggernaut anyway. We’re going to win or lose based on defense and rebounding more than anything else. We do have to score enough, but I think what has happened is…what I saw is we missed shots, and for the first time, it just sapped our energy, and it hurt our defense, and it hurt our physicality.”
Even before Kobe Bryant’s death left an understandably sizeable impact on the Magic, Orlando failed to improve to a .500 record. The Magic are 4-6 through their last 10 games, and five of these losses were decided by 10 points or more. Since Wednesday, their past three home games resulted in double-digit defeats to the Clippers, Celtics, and Thunder.
Forward Michael Carter-Williams feels it will require more than honoring Bryant’s legacy to change the direction of Orlando’s season. To him, everyone in a Magic uniform performing consistently — regardless of the possession and quarter — will matter most.
“It’s a quick turnaround, we play (on Monday) and (the Heat) are a tough team and one of the best teams in the NBA at home,’’ Carter-Williams said. “We’ve got to go in there and play a full 48. If we get a lead, they’re going to try to fight back and if they get a lead they’re going to push it. So, we’ve got to go in there and all of us and have to play well. It can’t just be one or two of us; we all have to play well.’’
The Magic (21-26) will visit the Heat (32-14) on Monday night.

You’ve talked about Kobe being the ‘bar’ for you. In what ways do you feel like you’ve reached it?
DW: I don’t know. I mean, how I look at it is this: when I came into the league, obviously [Michael] Jordan was my idol, and he was gone. But Kobe was that bar for me, to say, OK, he’s the ultimate two-guard in this league, and I need to get there. And I felt at some point in my career, I reached that, where I was battling him. Any given night, I could be the best two-guard in the league, or he could be the best two-guard in the league, but we were going at it. And from the standpoint of his success and what he did before I came in, and winning all the championships, etc., he had me on that. But season to season, I felt like I was looking at him eye to eye some nights, and some years. And so I don’t know at the end of the day how it shakes out from that standpoint. Obviously, to me, and I haven’t seen all the players play live — but biased, I think he’s the second-best two-guard to ever play. And I think I’ve been in conversations to be from three to five. And to me, I’ve reached my bar from that standpoint, of trying to get to where he is, as one of the all-time greats at that position.
Whatever anyone else thought of Kobe — for whom petulance could be part of the package — his peers thought he was an all-timer, someone to emulate. Wade never, ever put himself above Bryant in the rankings, even though he outplayed Bryant in many of their encounters, including the breakout Christmas Day game in 2005, after Shaquille O’Neal had pushed himself away from Bryant to Wade.
That is Bryant’s basketball legacy, even if the family legacy is more important.
Kobe clearly loved his daughters.
That’s what I related to.
Don’t really care about the basketball stuff.
— Ethan J. Skolnick of @5ReasonsSports (@EthanJSkolnick) January 26, 2020
The basketball legacy is the way those in the game reacted to him.
Had several conversations with LeBron about Kobe. Can just say that he measured himself against Kobe more than against any other active player. Even to the degree of how many more fans each drew on the road.
— Five Reasons Sports Network (@5ReasonsSports) January 26, 2020
Even those who weren’t in the game yet, like Wade’s heir apparent at two-guard in Miami, Tyler Herro::
Kobe was the MJ to this generation of NBA players….The player who reigned supreme during the precious early years they fell in love w/ 🏀
The basketball world is mourning the passing of a legend. Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant has died in a helicopter crash according to multiple media reports. According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski, he was on his way to a travel basketball game with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna. Nine people were killed in total per a report from the Associated Press.
Bryant was just 41 years of age.
Several NBA players and personalities reacted upon hearing the news.
Kobe you were my idol… period. Mentality through and through. Thank you. To your family, I wish y’all nothing but the very best. Prayers and thoughts with you don’t begin to describe what we want for y’all. Love and respect to #8 & #24 forever. #MambaMentality#Mamba
Kobe Bryant was a player that transcended the game of basketball. He truly embraced the “Mamba Mentality” and worked hard for everything he had on the court. He was the ultimate competitor, and a clutch playoff performer. A five-time champion and two-time NBA Finals MVP were just some of the things on his resume. He also won an MVP award in 2008. That year, he was a huge reason why the Lakers went on a strong postseason run that culminated in a championship.
An eight-time All-Star, Bryant had both No. 8 and 24 retired by the team. A six-time NBA champion, he embodied what it means to be a competitor. This is a very sad day for not only the entire NBA, but all of sports. He will most certainly be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and will forever go down as one of the greatest players ever to play the game of basketball. Even in his final NBA game on April 13, 2016, he competed until the very end. Scoring 60 points in his finale, it was one of the most impressive feats in the history of the NBA.
As you can see from the tweets above, this is a gigantic loss for the sports world. He will forever be a player that others inspire to be. He will always be remembered as a fearless and tough competitor. Bryant leaves behind a wife and four daughters. This is a historic day and one that will be forever remembered throughout the sports world.

There continues to be a lot of movement within the Miami Hurricanes football program as the team gets set for 2020. Saturday, defensive lineman Scott Patchan announced that he would be entering the transfer portal. He made the announcement via social media.
Patchan had his best season in 2019. He recorded 33 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He also recovered a fumble. His best game of the season came on December 26 in the Independence Bowl. He recorded eight tackles and a sack and a half.
For the year, he was ninth on the team in tackles and seventh on the team in sacks. This is a huge loss for the program defensively, as he was slated to be the team’s starting defensive end per a depth chart from Ourlads.com.
What this means for Miami Hurricanes
As a recruit, he was a bit of an underdog. A member of the class of 2015, he committed to Miami on April 12, 2014. He was the 22nd overall strong-side defensive end in his class and the 63rd overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 2015 football recruiting class included the likes of Derwin James and Calvin Ridley.
The Miami Hurricanes will have to find somebody that can fill the void left by his departure. They do have some defensive line help coming in the 2020 class. Defensive end Chantz Williams is currently enrolled with the program. Even still, this is certainly a hit to the Miami Hurricanes in terms of experience as well. Patchan would have probably been in the rotation at both defensive . Knd and linebacker
Patchan recently got a waiver to play his sixth and final year of college football. He was the last remaining Miami Hurricanes player from the Al Golden era.
It will be interesting to see where his college career takes him next, as he looks to start his final season.

As the Miami Heat get ready to take on the Los Angeles Clippers Friday night, they have to be ready for the multi-faceted attack Los Angeles brings to the table. They are a balanced team, and succeed well in all areas.
Take for example Kawhi Leonard. He is third in the league in steals per game with an average of two per contest. He also has 27.1 points per contest. That is seventh in the entire league. He brings to the table a multi—faceted game that has suited Los Angeles well. With an average of 9.6 field goals made per game, that puts him sixth in the entire league in that category. His 20.6 average field goal attempts per game ranks him fifth in all of basketball.
Montrezl Harrell is a tough defender, but he can also shoot the basketball really well. He ranks 11th in the entire league in field goal percentage. Shooting at a 57.2% clip, he brings both toughness and efficiency to the table.
Paul George brings a multi-level offensive game to the table. He is apt at shooting the basketball . He can also get to the free-throw line and make his chances. With a 90.9 free-throw conversion percentage, George certainly makes the most of his opportunities when he is at the line. The best thing the Miami Heat can do is not foul him. Otherwise, it’s essentially guaranteed free points.
Miami Heat have challenge ahead of them.
With this balance Los Angeles possesses, the Miami Heat certainly have a tough challenge ahead of them. The biggest thing that they should do Friday night is move the basketball offensively. Keeping the Clippers on their toes defensively could be a key to victory.
Defensively, it will be hard to combat the likes of George and Leonard without allowing at least a few baskets. Rotating defensively and not allowing the Clippers to get comfortable will be key. Staying in front of their man will help eliminate drive to the basket. Making Los Angeles work offensively will slow them down. They are going to get their points, it’s just a matter of limiting the damage.
The Miami Heat will be challenged on Friday night. This will be a good test to see where they stand against the Western Conference. They will certainly have a lot to think about on both sides of the ball. Slowing down the Clippers will certainly not be an easy task. It may be a question of allowing the Clippers to succeed in some areas if it means taking away others.
