Messi, new-look InterMiami hope to build on opening friendly

Inter Miami kicked off their preseason tour on Saturday, with the reigning Supporters’ Shield winners facing off against Mexican powerhouse América in a friendly in Las Vegas. Despite falling behind on two occasions, the Herons were able to secure a 2-2 draw thanks to a goal from Lionel Messi and a last-second equalizer from Tomás Avilés, before edging América 3-2 on penalties.

It was Inter Miami’s first match since November 9, when they were sent packing from the MLS Playoffs by Atlanta United. Inter Miami will play six more preseason matches before finally commencing their 2025 campaign on February 18 against Sporting Kansas City in the Concacaf Champions Cup. But what exactly can Inter Miami fans expect from their team for the upcoming campaign? Let’s dive deep.

Since beginning their MLS journey in 2020, Inter Miami have acquired a number of high-profile stars like Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuaín, but their biggest coup came in the summer of 2023 when they signed eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, widely considered to be the greatest soccer player of all time. Over the next few weeks, Messi would work his magic with an Inter Miami side that found itself amongst the worst teams in MLS. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner quickly adjusted to life in North America and helped them win the 2023 Leagues Cup, their first trophy in the club’s history. And whilst they failed to reach the playoffs, the signs were certainly promising for the short-term future.

Linking up with former Barcelona teammates Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets as well as former Barcelona coach Tata Martino, Messi and co. were able to take the league by storm in 2024. They finished the regular season with a whopping 74 points from 34 matches – the highest point tally in MLS history – and scored 79 goals in the process. After beating Atlanta United 2-1 in the first leg of the Round of 16 and taking an early lead in the second leg, they looked to be cruising to their first-ever quarterfinal berth. Instead, however, Derrick Williams would level proceedings at the hour-mark, whilst Xande Silva’s last-second winner would force a winner-takes-all third leg, where Atlanta beat the odds by pulling off a 3-2 win in Southern Florida.

“Miami could not defend in transition,” said former USMNT international Taylor Twellman. “This is a league built on athleticism, that’s played at a high pace and played in transition more often than not…you knew that if they didn’t have possession, they were going to struggle. They didn’t have a great understanding in defense and I think that falls on manager Tata Martino. It certainly wasn’t a personnel issue: 10 years from now, we’re going to be talking about them in the top 2-3 rosters ever in the history of MLS.”

Since that heartbreaking defeat, plenty has changed at Inter Miami. Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gómez has joined Premier League side Brighton for €13 million, whilst other key figures like Leonardo Campana and Sergiy Kryvtsov have also parted ways. In terms of incomings, Miami have brought in several Argentine players like Celta de Vigo winger Tadeo Allende, Lanús goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo, and San Lorenzo defender Gonzalo Luján. They’ve also acquired Venezuelan midfielder Telasco Segovia from Casa Pia, and brought in Haitian winger Fafà Picault from Vancouver Whitecaps – who has scored 56 goals and 26 assists in 224 MLS appearances.

However, perhaps the biggest change has come at the managerial position: Tata Martino, a man who coached Messi at Barcelona and Argentina, stepped down due to personal reasons after their playoff defeat. He’s been replaced by Javier Mascherano, who played alongside Messi at Barcelona and Argentina and who also played with Busquets, Suárez and Alba at Barcelona.

“The only way I’d have been 100% convinced that Martino would be back with Miami in 2025 is if they won the MLS Cup,” said Twellman. “The moment they lost to Atlanta, everyone realized he wasn’t returning. Part of the reason why I love Tata is because he’s a stubborn old man who’s going to do it one way – his way – but that ended up biting him.”

When Martino began his coaching career in 1998, Mascherano hadn’t even made his professional debut as a footballer yet. At 40 years of age, Mascherano’s sole coaching experience has come with Argentina’s U-20 and U-23 teams, with his first major test coming in the summer as his Argentina side were sent packing in the quarterfinals of the Summer Olympics.

Mascherano has big shoes to fill as he looks to replace his compatriot in the wake of their record-breaking campaign, and Miami’s front office will certainly be looking to upgrade his roster and ensure that it can compete on all fronts. Can Mascherano guide Inter Miami to the promised land and lead them to an inaugural MLS Cup?

Knight Leads Panthers in Shutout Win Over Ducks

SUNRISE, Fla. — There was a brick wall in the crease on Saturday at Amerant Bank Arena, his name is Spencer Knight.

Knight backstopped the Florida Panthers to a 3-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks as he tied his career-high with two shutouts on the season.

Jesper Boqvist had the game winning goal midway through the second, as he set a career-high with 11 goals on the season.

Anton Lundell and Gustav Forsling also scored as the Panthers improved to 27-17-3 on the season.

The Panthers sit one point behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Here’s tonight’s takeaways.

Jesper Boqvist sets career-high in goals

There hasn’t been a debate on who the Panthers’ hidden gem has been this season, nor should there be, it’s Jesper Boqvist.

Boqvist, 26, set a new career-high for goals in a season on Saturday, picking up his 11th on the year.

With the game still scoreless, Boqvist beat Ducks goaltender John Gibson shortside to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead 11:22 into the second period.

“Good opportunity to play with good players and a good team,” Boqvist said when asked about his career-high. “I try to work hard and have my stick on the ice and people will find it.”

The Swedish forward has continued to climb his way up the lineup since the start of training camp, rising from near the bottom of the depth chart up into the Panthers’ top-nine.

“He’s been great, I’ve really enjoyed playing with him,” Anton Lundell said of Boqvist. “[Jesper’s] a great add to the team, in the locker room and on the ice as well… he’ss been a huge impact for sure.”

Reinhart ejected from game, Isac Lunderstrom does not return

The Panthers lost their top goal scorer Sam Reinhart 15:16 into the first period after he was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for a hit on Ducks forward Isac Lundestrom.

Lundestrom did not return to the game after taking the leg-on-leg hit from Reinhart.

In Florida’s last game against the Detroit Red Wings, the penalty kill had a disastrous night,  conceding three power play goals on just four shots in a 5-2 loss.

Down one of their top penalty killers and a five minute Ducks power play on the horizon, the Panthers had to lock in on the kill to prevent a repeat of Thursday night’s loss to the Red Wings.

The Panthers succeeded in killing off the major-penalty unscathed and were a perfect 2/2 on the night while short handed.

“Our kill – which we’ve struggled with – was really strong tonight,” Panthers head coach Paul Maurice said. “When you lose your leading scorer, then you’re into a grinder. [The Ducks] play tight games…It was a harder game than the standings would tell you, but I think we knew that going in. Happy with the kill. Happy for Spencer. Couple of timely goals for us.”

Knight gets shutout, assist in win

23-year-old Panthers goaltender Spencer Knight stopped all 34 shots he faced en route to his third consecutive win and second shutout of the season.

In 16 starts, Knight is 9-6-1 with a 2.45 GAA and a .904 save percentage.

With the Panthers leading 2-0 late on Saturday, Knight nearly capped off a phenomenal performance with a goalie goal after he attempted a shot at the Ducks empty net.

His scoring effort wasn’t bad, however it came up short as the puck reached only the neutral zone.

Knight did end up getting a primary assist on Gustav Forsling’s eventual empty netter.

“Yeah… I tried,” Knight said on his empty net attempt. “I’ll take the assist, though. Good to get the guys some points.”

With the point on Saturday, Knight now has two assists on the season, a new career-high.

Panthers Notes

Defenseman Aaron Ekblad (undisclosed) missed his fifth consecutive game.

Sam Bennett’s goalless streak extended to 20 games on Saturday. He last scored on Dec. 3 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Panthers will be on the road for the next four games for a California and Las Vegas road trip.

Red Wings Power Play Bests Panthers, Barkov Wins Finnish Athlete of the Year

SUNRISE, Fla.  — Special teams success was the key to victory for the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.

The Red Wings dominated on the power play, scoring three times on just four shots to take down the Florida Panthers 5-2 at Amerant Bank Arena.

Cam Talbot had 41 saves — while stopping all 23 shots in the third period — as the Red Wings picked up its seventh win in the past eight games.

Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin scored the game winner, and led all skaters with two goals and three points on the night.

While losing on Thursday, the Panthers felt that the game came down to the special teams battle, as they controlled the majority of even strength play, outscoring the Red Wings 2-1 at 5-on-5 and generating 39 more even strength shot attempts, per NaturalStatTrick.

“We gotta stay out of the box,” Panther forward Evan Rodrigues said. “The past six, even games we’ve been taking a lot of penalties. That cost us tonight.”

“Even strength we played well, I think special teams won them the game today,” Rodrigues added.

After conceding four goals on 15 shots, Sergei Bobrovsky’s night game came to an end with 4:19 to play in the second period. Spencer Knight, who had 26 saves in Florida’s last game against the New Jersey Devils, played the rest of the way on Thursday night.

“Some nights the guys get unlucky in the net,” Panthers head coach Paul Maurice said of Bobrovsky. “Sergei doesn’t get pulled very often and it wasn’t a ‘I gotta get him out of there for us to win the game.’

Knight didn’t see much action when he took over the net, facing just four shots in 22:02 of game time.

The Panthers will be back at home on Saturday night to face the Anaheim Ducks.

Panthers Notes

Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov was named Finland’s Athlete of the Year earlier in the day.

“It means the world to me to be honest,” Barkov said of winning the award. “It’s athlete of the year in Finland, the country where I was born, where I was raised and grew up watching national teams play.

He became the first hockey player ever to win the award.

“It’s a huge honor to be the first hockey player [to win],” Barkov continued. “I was surprised. Finland had so many good hockey players, but there’ve been great athletes from other sports as well. But I’m very happy.”

On an injury standpoint, defenseman Aaron Ekblad (undisclosed) missed his fourth consecutive game on Thursday.

What Does 2025 Have In Store For Casino Sites?

The online casino world has changed big time, pushed forward by new tech and what players want. Over the years, the online gambling scene has transformed. As 2025 unfolds, the industry is set to shake things up even more. These changes will benefit players, make things safer, and bring in cool new games.

This article will examine what’s next for casino sites and the introduction of new popular forms of gambling, such as online sweepstakes. We’ll discuss websites that work on any device and exciting new game types. We’ll also highlight personalized gaming powered by smart computer systems, new pay methods, and how casinos are becoming more social and caring about players’ well-being.

Expansion of Multi-Use Casino Sites

Online casinos are moving toward multi-function platforms that integrate sports betting, poker and other forms of gambling, classic casino games, and instant-win arcade games. Due to convenience, players are increasingly interested in accessing various gambling options directly on a single site, resulting in higher engagement and commitment.

This trend benefits operators by diversifying revenue streams and attracting a broader audience. Since the competition gets fiercer, more and more platforms will use this model to stay competitive. Smooth navigation, shared wallets, and cross-selling/promotion within and across various parses are anticipated.

New Games That Could Gain Popularity

The online casino Australia sector is in progress, and several types of games are becoming popular in 2025. Instant-win arcade games such as Plinko, Crash, and Mines are on the increase in popularity thanks to their short-to-beatable immediacy and skill element.

Live dealer games continue to be popular. They provide real-time dynamic interaction with dealers and fellow players, fostering trust and participation. Their continued success drives casinos to expand their live gaming portfolios.

Esports betting is also on the rise. Major tournaments have massive betting pools, and interest in in-play esports betting is predicted to increase substantially.

Additionally, provably fair blockchain games are gaining ground. These games use smart contracts to ensure transparency and fairness, appealing to players who value trust and security.

Finally, strategic games that demand decision-making instead of pure chance also appear for players who seek a higher feeling of control over the outcome.

AI and Personalization

Artificial intelligence and customized gaming experiences are changing online casinos. AI-powered algorithms determine player behaviour to suggest games and promotions relevant to each user individually, which helps increase engagement.

Custom bonuses are also the standard, as casinos provide personalized premiums according to the player’s playing behaviour, deposit flow, and membership level.

Furthermore, targeted marketing approaches only deliver promotions to the target audience, leading to increased retention. Instead of standard offers, players are offered tailored offers based on their preferences.

Payment Innovation & Cryptocurrency Growth

Online casinos will still be widening their different payment options in 2025, and to suit all users better, e-wallets, bank transfers, and mobile payment methods should be more readily available. Faster payment processing is of interest because, at present, players are eager for instant deposits and withdrawals, etc.

In addition, cryptocurrency use is also growing. Cryptocurrency transfers are appealing because of their enhanced security, anonymity, and processing times, and their popularity should not be unexpected for modern gamblers.

With the rise of digital currencies and mainstream acceptance, a demand is created for blockchain-based casinos to implement blockchain-based payments from which end users can benefit from simple and easy-to-perform financial transactions.

Responsible Gambling & Security Enhancements

Safe betting applications will be the norm in 2025’s online casinos. Self-exclusion, deposit limits, and reality check tools all help players manage their game-playing behavior, creating safer gambling spaces.

Blockchain technology also fosters transparency through the introduction of provably fair games. This enables players to verify game fairness unbiasedly, leading to trust and diminished fears of rigged results.

Casinos are deploying sophisticated fraud detection technologies and KYC procedures to better protect against security threats. Enhanced identity checking procedures are employed to stop minors from gambling, money laundering, and the like, thereby offering a safer and more secure gaming experience for members of the gaming community.

Social Features & Community Gaming

In 2025, social elements in online casinos will be extended by adding chat facilities, leaderboards, and multiplayer facilities to provide an even more interactive experience. Social casinos are also experiencing a boom, enabling players to compete, communicate, and celebrate successes without monetary bets.

Childhood and wannabe gamers interested in community-driven games want interactive gamespaces and social interaction. Therefore, casinos will still change to create a better, more communal gambling atmosphere.

Conclusion

Trends defining 2025 online casinos, including multi-platforms, new games, AI-enabled personalization, wider payment options, and social integration, will transform the player experience and raise the industry’s standards. These developments meet contemporary gamblers’ demands and allow operators to be competitive in a volatile market. As this industry evolves, the direction of online casinos is set to be more interactive, secure, and player-focused than ever.

What defensive changes can the Jaguars make to win games and favor bettors?

In recent years, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made significant strides. However, their defense is still an area of concern. The team does have talented individuals, but the consistency seems to be lacking. In critical moments, it seems the Jaguars often struggle to contain high-powered offenses. Inconsistent pass rushes and vulnerabilities against elite quarterbacks and wide receivers seem to be issues.

In this year’s draft, it’s crucial that the Jaguars improve their defense. With a more disciplined and cohesive defense, the team could close the gap and minimize opponent yardage much easier, like the Miami Dolphins did a few years ago. For bettors, consistent defensive performances mean that the data will be more reliable to work with for predictions too. In this article, we’ll explore the changes the Jaguars need to make in their defense to win games while helping out bettors too.

The Jaguars’ current defensive strengths and weaknesses

To put a positive spin on things, the Jaguars’ defense is somewhat of a work in progress. They have had flashes of brilliance, but it’s a key area that the Jacksonville team needs to work on. Let’s look at their strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths:

In terms of strengths, the Jaguars do have pass-rush potential. Players like Josh Allen and Travon Walker have the physical tools to disrupt quarterbacks. Allen has impressive speed and agility while Walker has the size and strength to dominate.

Another defensive strength is the run. The team has ranked favorably in terms of run-stopping metrics. Foye Oluokun and Devin Lloyd have played important roles in reading plays and have limited big gains. The secondary has also improved in recent seasons for the Jaguars. Tyson Campbell and Andre Cisco have had strong points and made critical plays in passing. Though the secondary isn’t elite, it does have the potential to improve with the right development.

Weaknesses:

Now for the crux of it: the defensive weaknesses. Despite the promise shown by the secondary, the team has struggled with pass coverage. There have been missed assignments and breakdowns in coverage, which has led to big plays for the opposition. Campbell, although he has shown potential, has still been prone to giving up large gains. The Jaguars have also struggled in zone coverage, which has meant receivers have been left open in critical situations.

The Jaguars’ lack of turnovers is also a big weakness. They have been able to pressure quarterbacks but haven’t been able to turn these situations into interceptions. This is an area that the team needs to work on so they can become more disruptive as a defensive unit.

Missed opportunities are also common. Missed tackles and poor form have recently been problematic and have meant opponents have had big gains. Finally, there is a lack of depth in key areas. Injuries, particularly in the defensive line and secondary, have highlighted this. This has made it harder for the team to maintain defensive efficiency as the backups don’t always step up.

Defensive adjustments to improve performance

To improve their chances of winning, the Jacksonville Jaguars need to make several defensive adjustments. Here are some possible adjustments that would help them improve their defense:

  1. Develop pass coverage schemes: This is one of the team’s most pressing issues. They need to work on their consistency in pass coverage. It’s important for them to refine their coverage schemes and adjust man-to-man and zone coverage.

They could benefit from using more press-man coverage at the line of scrimmage. This would disrupt wide receivers’ routes. They could also work on their communication and develop their reading and reacting. With miscommunications, they end up with wide-open receivers, but by improving awareness, they can limit the number of explosive plays.

  1. Generate more turnovers: Another key area to address is the inability to generate turnovers. These can alter the game dynamics and give the team more possessions, putting pressure on their opponents. They should focus on creating disruption by forcing fumbles during tackles.

Their defensive linemen and linebackers should punch the ball out on sack attempts or when the ball carrier is wrapped up. Another suggestion is to instill a ball-hawking mentality. Instead of covering receivers, the team should try to play the ball. Working on tracking passes and making aggressive attempts for interceptions could improve their turnover rate drastically.

  1. Improve tracking fundamentals: The Jaguars often miss tackles, which then lead to big plays or extended drives for the opposing team. To improve, players should focus on developing their tackling in open field situations and practice tackling drills with proper form and technique.

  1. Develop more effective defensive game plans: If they want to succeed against top-tier offenses, the Jaguars must improve their game plans. This means adjusting their offensive styles and preparing for different in-game situations. They should study the opposing team’s strengths and weaknesses and plan accordingly. They must also focus on developing their situational awareness.

How bettors can leverage Jaguars’ defensive changes

With the Jacksonville Jaguars working on their defense, bettors can use the changes to make better-informed and more strategic bets. Improved defense will directly influence the betting outcomes for bettors because the team will play more consistently, especially in close games.

Here are some ways that bettors can take advantage of these adjustments:

  • ‘Safer’ bets in certain situations: If the Jaguars have more reliability in their defense, bettors will be able to make safer bets. For instance, it could become more attractive to bet on the Jaguars to cover the spread or win outright.
  • More predictable: Better pass rushes, tighter coverage and improvements in tackling would likely lead to more plays and prevent big gains from the opposition. If the Jaguars have shown improvement in the red zone defense, this could influence betting on point spreads of game totals.

Bettors can refine their betting strategies by focusing on statistics that measure the strength of the defense, such as sacks, pressure metrics and forced turnovers. Bettors looking to stay ahead should also read betting guides for the NFL to maximize their chances.

Final thoughts

To summarize, it’s clear that the Jaguars need to make some defensive changes. Not only will these benefit the team and lead to more consistency and more frequent wins, but this will also have the added benefit of helping bettors place more accurate wagers when they focus on key defensive metrics to make their decisions.

What Your Sportswear Could Be Doing to Your Body

When you slip into your favorite leggings or sports shirt, you likely don’t think about the potential harm hidden in the fabric. However recent studies suggest that the synthetic materials commonly used in sportswear could be more dangerous than you realize.

From cancer-causing chemicals to endocrine disruptors, here are some of the hidden dangers lurking in your workout gear:

PFAS: The Hidden Hazard in Sportswear

Your favorite leggings or sweat-wicking shirt might be doing more than keeping you comfortable; they could also deliver harmful chemicals into your body. Synthetic fabrics like Spandex, polyester, and nylon are made from petrochemicals. They are often treated with additives such as PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkyl substances).

A University of Birmingham study found that sweat can leach chemicals from synthetic fabrics, allowing them to be absorbed through the skin.

PFAS are commonly used in water-resistant and sweat-wicking treatments. According to TorHoerman Law, these “forever chemicals” have gained notoriety due to their persistence in the environment and the human body. Their long-lasting nature has made headlines, especially as contamination has been discovered in drinking water across the U.S. and other countries.

Much of this pollution comes from AFFF firefighting foam and improper cleanup of foam residues, causing widespread exposure.

PFAS-related lawsuits are rapidly increasing, as affected individuals and communities push to hold manufacturers accountable. The latest PFAS lawsuit update reports over $1 billion in settlements from Tyco Fire Products and BASF Corporation to address public water contamination. These developments signal a growing momentum in the legal battles surrounding PFAS exposure.

While PFAS were initially linked to firefighting foam, they are now found in everyday items, including sportswear. Recent studies found PFAS in 82% of tested outdoor apparel, such as fleece, waterproof jackets, walking boots, and rucksacks.

As the public becomes more aware of PFAS in wearables and their link to severe health risks like cancer, pressure on manufacturers is mounting. With every new revelation, the wave of litigation grows stronger, setting a precedent for accountability and stricter regulations.

Bisphenols: The BPA of Sportswear

An increasing number of sportswear brands, including Athleta, Nike, and Champion, have been found to contain high levels of Bisphenol A (BPA). BPA is a harmful chemical linked to health issues such as asthma, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and cancer.

The Center for Environmental Health (CEH) tested various athletic wear, including leggings, sports bras, and shirts. They found some products exposed wearers to up to 40 times the safe BPA limit, according to California’s Proposition 65 standards.

Despite industry claims that BPA is safe at low levels, experts warn about its risks. This includes concerns from Tufts University, stating that both ingestion and skin absorption of BPA can lead to significant health issues.

According to CNN, CEH has filed legal notices and lawsuits against several brands, urging them to remove BPA from their products. The group recommends limiting exposure by changing out of athletic wear immediately after use.

Formaldehyde: The Cancer-Causing Preservative

Formaldehyde, a chemical commonly used in the finishing process of sportswear, serves to make fabrics wrinkle-resistant and enhance their durability. While it is effective in these roles, formaldehyde is also a known carcinogen, posing serious health risks when absorbed through the skin or inhaled.

Prolonged exposure to this chemical has been linked to respiratory problems, skin irritation, and an increased risk of developing cancers. Formaldehyde is often found in high concentrations in outdoor gear and workout clothing. It can be absorbed during physical activity, making it a hidden and persistent threat to health.

As consumers become more aware of these dangers, the push for safer, chemical-free alternatives in sportswear is growing.

FAQs

What chemicals are commonly found in sportswear?

Sportswear often contains harmful chemicals like BPA (Bisphenol A), formaldehyde, PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), phthalates, and bisphenols. These chemicals are used for various purposes such as making fabrics durable, wrinkle-resistant, and water-resistant, but they pose significant health risks.

Can I avoid harmful chemicals in my sportswear?

To reduce exposure, consider choosing brands that offer products made from organic or safer materials. Be cautious of synthetic fabrics like polyester, spandex, and nylon, which are more likely to contain harmful chemicals. Also, washing your activewear frequently can help reduce chemical buildup, though it doesn’t eliminate all risks.

Are there any legal actions being taken against sportswear brands for these chemicals?

The Center for Environmental Health (CEH) has filed legal notices and lawsuits against several sportswear brands. These actions are for selling products that contain harmful chemicals such as BPA and PFAS. These efforts aim to push manufacturers to reformulate their products for safer consumer use.

Overall, by being mindful of what we use during our workouts, we can protect our health. This ensures that our efforts to stay fit extend beyond the gym and into every aspect of our lives.

Panthers to Host Rangers in 2026 NHL Winter Classic

Playing an outdoor hockey game in Florida was once thought to be nothing short of a fantasy, until now.

The Florida Panthers will play hosts to the New York Rangers in the 2026 NHL Winter Classic, the NHL announced Wednesday.

The game will be played on Jan. 2, 2026 in Miami at loanDepot Park, home of MLB’s Miami Marlins.

Over the past few years, South Florida has become a major attraction for the NHL, with the Panthers hosting the All Star game in 2023, before making back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances in 2023 and 2024.

Now the Panthers can add Winter Classic hosts to its resume.

Florida is one of three NHL teams yet to appear in an outdoor game, with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Utah Hockey Club — formerly the Arizona Coyotes — being the other two.

Utah will soon be the lone franchise awaiting an outdoor game, with Florida getting the Winter Classic and Columbus hosting the Detroit Red Wings in the 2025 NHL Stadium Series this March.

The matchup will see last season’s Eastern Conference finalists faceoff under the Miami sun — or loanDepot’s retractable roof — in what will be the Panthers’ first ever outdoor game in its 32nd NHL season.

The Panthers knocked the Rangers out of the playoffs in Game 6 of the 2024 Eastern Conference Final, en route to the franchise’s first Stanley Cup last season.

Next year’s game will be the 16th edition of the Winter Classic, which was first held on Jan. 1, 2008 in Orchard Park, N.Y., where the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in a shootout.

The NHL also announced that the Tampa Bay Lightning will host the Boston Bruins in the 2026 NHL Stadium Series on Feb. 1 at Raymond James Stadium, giving the State of Florida not one, but two outdoor games in 2026.

“Stanley Cups, strings of sellouts and the exponential growth of youth and high school hockey throughout the state have demonstrated that Florida is a hockey hotbed,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “Outdoor NHL games in the Sunshine State? Never let it be said that our League isn’t willing to accept a challenge.”

Dolphins Face Must-Win Scenario Against Jets: Can Miami Keep Playoff Hopes Alive?

The Miami Dolphins’ season has been a rollercoaster. A dismal 2-6 start seemed to bury any hope of meaningful football in January, yet here we are in Week 18, and Miami still has a chance to sneak into the playoffs. All they need is a win against the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium—and a little help from Kansas City.

The Dolphins are favored, albeit slightly, but nothing about this season has been easy. Injuries have hit the team hard, with Tua Tagovailoa unable to play due to a hip issue, forcing Tyler Huntley to make another start — though he was much better in last week’s win in Cleveland. To make things more challenging, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle enter the weekend banged up. The offense, which was electric in 2023, has struggled to find its footing this season. The once high-flying unit hasn’t eclipsed 400 total yards in a single game, a far cry from last year’s six such performances.

What’s kept Miami afloat has been a defense that turned the tide. After finishing 22nd in scoring defense last season, they’ve leaped to eighth in 2024, thanks to stingy third-down and red-zone efforts. This group doesn’t just keep the Dolphins in games—it wins them. That’s the kind of identity Miami will need to lean on again Sunday.

But as the Dolphins fight for their playoff lives, the Jets find themselves in a very different position. Their season, once bursting with optimism after the arrival of Aaron Rodgers, has unraveled into a disappointing 4-12 slog. Injuries, inconsistency, and looming questions about the future have left the Jets at a crossroads.

Still, New York isn’t rolling over. Their defense remains one of the best in the league, ranking in the top five in total yards allowed. They’ve shown they can make life miserable for opposing offenses, even when their own unit struggles to deliver. Rodgers, Breece Hall, and Garrett Wilson give them enough firepower to play spoiler—a role they’d surely relish in crushing Miami’s playoff dreams.

The last time these teams met, Miami squeaked out an overtime win. Sunday’s rematch won’t be any easier. Tyler Huntley, likely starting for the Dolphins, faces the daunting task of leading an already limping offense against an elite defense. Mistakes will be magnified, and points will come at a premium.

For Miami, it’s simple: win or go home. The Dolphins have clawed their way back from the brink, and now it all comes down to 60 minutes in East Rutherford. The stakes couldn’t be higher.

As for the Jets, a win here won’t salvage their season, but it could leave a bitter taste in the mouth of their division rival. If there’s one thing New York fans can savor, it’s a chance to ruin Miami’s postseason plans.

Sunday promises tension, drama, and maybe a few surprises.

Can Miami finish what they started with this improbable comeback? Or will the Jets remind us that the NFL has no mercy for teams on the brink? For Dolphins fans, it’s not just another game—it’s a season on the line.
